This could very well tell us the direction we are going down the stretch. Northwestern to me is better than their record and capable of beating anyone. We need this win!

Yep. They have played teams tough the last 4 games.  Lost @ UM by 2, lost at home to Illini by 3, won at home vs Rutgers by 1 and most recently won at NE by 24.

So, the Illinois at PU game, originally scheduled for Thursday, was moved up to 9 p.m. today -- same as us vs. the Kitties. Their first game -- on MLK Day -- was a real wing-dinger. Not that I give a crap about the Toiletmakers, but I kinda wanted to watch the rematch.

Seems to me that the constant early whistles took the wind out of IU's fast break.  IU got lucky by being up by 2 at the half.  TJD never got into the flow of things because of Illinois' 300 lb Kofi.  And Kofi was allowed to elbow and walk all night.  With no fast break...and not dominant in the middle...guys just stood around...  IU is really a one trick pony.  And the pony came up lame. I was hoping that Kofi would get whistled for fouls.  But, TJD got frustrated and was called for his.

TJD and Race need to be able to roam around.  If they don't...what is IU to do?  Hit 3's?  Yeah, right.

Not blaming anyone.  Cheering for ole IU!  But we need excellent recruiting.  Help is on the way.  Right?  Right?  uh...  yeah.  I hope.

This is not overly-simplistic.

What takes the wind out of any team's fast break is when the other team puts the ball in the basket.

You can run off of:

  • Steals
  • Blocked shots
  • Long misses (i.e. missed threes usually)

You cannot run off of:

  • Made baskets
  • Dead ball turnovers (traveling, 3 seconds, offensive fouls, etc.)
  • Free throws, made or missed

I don't care if they have Vida Blue & Larry Nance at Northwestern tonight, we're going in there for a win.

Is this the game the lineup changes? Maybe a different lineup to start the 2nd half. Can't have the scoring droughts.

TJD needs to be an All-Big Ten player tonight. TJD, Race, and X will lead us to this win, veterans win on the road.

Need a spark from someone else, maybe give Leal a run tonight. This is a game he can play in.

Make some shots!! Remember if we score more points than they do, we can't lose.

This team needs to start showing a sense of urgency.  I know I am.

I really want to see some passing back out of the post on a regular basis. I think the ball sticks in the post way too often, which leads the wings and guards to stand around and watch. I know TJD is an all American and all that jazz, but it is making us too one dimensional. I have watched plenty of video that shows both Stewart and Kopp at their previous schools not just stand around watching the post. I think it is way beyond time to stop focusing on post play for offense. I know it wins us some games, but it also costs some games, too, especially when the opposing post players are bigger than ours.

Well you know Kopp will start tonight.  That would be a total burn if he didn't on his homecoming.

Yes this is a good point, and - hopefully - the motivation will be there for him to really bring it. We need more outside shooting

Spot on.

There is just no good reason for our not playing inside out. TJD can dominate, and Race is right there, but we're one dimensional on offense. Kicking it back out would / SHOULD open the floor for everyone, TJD and Race included. Kick the ball to our shooters, let it fly, and spread out the D for more room in the lane. This is not rocket science.

I'm a believer in Woodson and staff, but lately it has appeared Woodson is stubbornly playing the same starters no matter what and not using the outside shot, and that needs to change.
