I’ve seen many interviews during the recruiting process where the parents control the coverage and then I’ve seen interviews with parents during the season of some of these players while they are playing. Nature of the beast now I think you are right. It just seems odds. I didn't like Leal's mom tweeting "play him" or Smith's dad running his mouth. It just creates disfunction. Nature of the beast now I would argue that interviews during the recruiting process are different than when they are in college. Indystar should be going to Armaan for comment not his mother. Peegs should be going to Jordan Geronimo for comment and not his mother. just my opinion though. T White and Uspshoosier 2 Quote

Southside Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 Every one of the players, if they are smart, should be in the portal IMO. Doesn't mean they are gone. Just means they are opening up options. The new coach will re-recruit each kid, and that's fine. go iu bb and Hillsdale87 2 Quote

But let's be honest, we weren't good last year and a new coach isn't going to change that over a year. Our roster was a major attribution to our bad performances, it wasn't all on Archie's shoulders. The grass will be greener for some of them. Quote
Stromboli Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 I’d prefer these guys enter the portal before a new coach is named. 1) It’s a bad look if they enter the portal only after he is named, 2) if the new coach communicates to a player he should seek playing time elsewhere, it smooths out the process on both sides. That said, I want to keep every player (excluding senior Al) that has entered the portal. WayneFleekHoosier, Class of '66 Old Fart and DChoosier 3 Quote

The grass will be greener for some of them. We weren't good the year before either lol.. Times have changed. As much as coaches/teams preach about committing to the school, and not the coach, it's just not reality. And even if they did commit with the school in mind, a major change, especially to the HC, will cause each and every player to rethink things. And IMO any kid that doesn't look at all his options is pretty silly. Each kid will need to look at his options and see if he fits here, or somewhere else. And if the new coach is a more modern O coach, a kid that chooses to come back amidst all the turnover can still steal the spotlight, even on a losing team. And I'm not even ready to say we're automatically going to be worse next year. If there was ever a great year to rebuild through the portal, it's this year. Quote

Hoosierfan22 Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 To me it seems like KL will stay. He loves Indiana and that is why he came and probably not for Archie. I don’t think one player really came to play for Archie. They came to play for a school with 5 titles. KL and most of the other players are scared if the new coach is looking for their playing style. Right. Some kids are just ready physiologically. They have a shadow beard in 7th grade like a guy on my team did. He had to bring his birth certificate to every fn game to prove. Lander, is not that. He wasn't ready for the speed regardless, but his body is definitely not ready. Quote

By reclassifying in his case you lose out on being able to prepare yourself for the rigors of what the college game throws at you particularly in the Big Ten where guys are more stronger have an established game that is more suited for the conference season. Loaded Chicken Sandwich Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 Lander is who I want to keep the absolute most. He's the starter next season under a great coach. He's got the speed, vision and explosiveness to be exciting. Quote
CrossboneIU22 Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Hopefully with Coach Woodson meeting with the team today, we will begin hearing a trend of players rescinding their names from the Transfer Portal soon. Crimson and Cream and Loaded Chicken Sandwich 2 Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/iu-basketball-recruiting-2021-signee-duncomb-likes-woodson-hire-2022-commit-gunn-wants-to-meet-new-coach/ Primarily about Duncomb but I thought the last paragraph was interesting The Daily Hoosier caught up with a couple uncommitted in-state recruiting targets and/or their parents over the last few days and they indicated that Roberts was still actively recruiting high school players, and at least in one case, more aggressively recruiting a player than Miller was. Presumably Hunter was doing the same thing. go iu bb, thebigweave, OliviaPope40 and 3 others 6 Quote
