Not really. If we don’t get DeVries this is going to turn into a 2-3 week nightmare that blows UK’s fiasco last year out of the water.

We’ve gotten what, 4-5 candidates new jobs/raises so far and the tournament hasn’t even started?

Exactly. Need to close this

Why isn’t it apparent that Dolson used Brian Evans and the Hoosier Hysterics to get out his message on Woodson?

who was the other guy in the room in the infamous meeting with Eric where woody cancelled fan camp and the gif tournament?

Because I think it was more Woody's ego vs. Eric's ego and they ended up in a passing match with each other.  They Hysterics are loose cannons and I think the University should be a little more active in controlling it's image.  Those guys basically had the "Officially Licensed Indiana University" stamp on them and when outsiders talk about a toxic environment, I think they would be at the top of that list.

And they aren't reliable reporters.  They carried Woodson's water for years and then aired the laundry after they got cut off.  It makes total sense for Dolson to cut out wildcards with the next hire.  We need this to go well and the last thing you want is people who were given special access staying close to your program when they have been shown to backstab you in the past.  And frankly as a content consumer, I think it is better to not have these guys attached at the hip to IU either because it causes them to withhold info (as the Hysterics have admitted).

My polite read on it is that McCollum’s resume is very pure, almost without failure once he got it rolling. DeVries has been in a more challenging situation and has outperformed expectations, has high D1 experience, but no “wow” breakthrough S16 at Drake or whatever.

Breakthrough S16 or higher appearances don't always translate well.   I.e., Archie Miller.

That’s fair. My concern with BM is lack of high major experience, and i know ball is ball, but im talking more about dealing with that level of athletes/competition 24/7/365, recruiting, ect. At least DD has proven he can handle those things. Not like either hire would make me super excited but I am going to support whoever SD chooses.

I would think that if Thamel is saying he’s “not a candidate at Iowa”, that would lean more towards an extension?

Because if Thamel knows he’s not going to Iowa because he’s going to IU, wouldn’t he just break “Devries to IU”?

If that is the case, why wouldn't he just put 'Devries to remain at West Virginia'?

I think he is just stating what he knows:  DeVries not going to Iowa.

I want it to be Brad Stevens as much as anyone. But the reality is that:

1) Being a college coach is a much harder, higher pressure job than what Stevens is doing now. He actually is getting to enjoy his wealth; few college coaches get to do that until they're retired.

2) The IU job just simply isn't what it used to be. It can become a great job again, but as of right now it's not a major destination for most coaches. That said, we have more resources than all but a handful of programs, so there's no limit to what a very competent coach can achieve here.

As far as I can tell, DeVries is a better X's and O's coach than anyone we've hired in the last 25 years aside from maybe Kelvin Sampson (and it has taken him a long time to get to where he's currently at). He's also a really solid recruiter who has brought quite a bit of talent to West Virginia despite relatively meager NIL resources compared to Indiana.

This hire should not disappoint anyone. I'm already pumped to see Tucker DeVries in an Indiana jersey. Let's do this.

1) He has said he wants to get into coaching again and his buddy Shrews even said he thinks he coaches again.
2) I do think the IU job is still a top job, but even if its not, it has been said by brad that IU is his dream job

Not saying it is Brad, but to me those statements might apply to every one else, but not necessarily to him. You could be 100% right, i am just trying to play devils advocate here.
