He said it could be somebody big if not DeVries.  He admitted he doesnt know anything and its been very tight lipped.  But I've listened to his show every night for the past week, and it's the first time he has ever said something like that about the Indiana opening as far as I can remember.

So what do you think based on what curry has been saying?

Mismanaging the basketball program for 25 years would definitely suggest IU will ignore Beard/Wade/Golden.

Indiana is a better job than Florida and it’s IU‘s job to make that clear. If IU can’t make the case to someone qualified then again, that’s just incompetence.

You can have mid NIL and salary and play in a FedEx warehouse or you can have top level NIL and salary and play in a limestone cathedral.

It is public knowledge that IU has top shelf money for both coaches and players, that we have a great arena and there is prestige (though fading) to the job. IU needs to do better at hiring basketball coaches. It’s literally their job and it will be their fault (not the fans’) if they hire another dud.

So that logic means Brad or WW? Because I just feel like Dusty is a 0% chance

He said Alan Hissy or something like that a while back to. Dennis Gates was one last search. Heck he might have mentioned Mathew Graves also. :-)

Something will stick

He didn’t say Jay Wright. He specifically mentioned Brad Stevens, Dusty May, Will Wade. Then, said it had to be someone really f***ing big if not DeVries.

Awesome to hear someone that well respected and connected actually mention Brad Stevens as a possibility. I was thinking all the BS talk was just some crazy Q'anon level conspiracy theory **** lol. Maybe there is a slight chance.

That’s quite the spectrum of candidates.

Is Wade that much higher than Devries when you factor everything in? He doesn’t meet our criteria as best ever at LSU because the notorious Dale Brown had several seasons better than Wades best.

No idea.  He doesn't talk a ton about Indiana because he doesn't have any great IU sources.

I am sure UK and UL fans thought the same thing last year. Again most coaches are going from mid major to major and not major to major

To be fair, he just threw out some big names.  He said "I don't want to say Brad Stevens, but somebody like that".  I think he just threw out a couple random names as examples of bigger names than guys like Brownell or McCollum.

He definitely thought he could. His problem was that he thought his mere presence would make it so and that was about all he was willing to do.

He did his job. Not his fault no one else knew they were supposed to drop dead in his presence.

Our next coach is going to cause a lot of excitement…much more than a McCollum or Brownell. Time will tell. Stay patient

Pretty much everyone whose job it is to cover IU and NCAA basketball in general who have talked about the IU coaching search have said that the IU side is very quiet so they're not getting info there. That means that pretty much everyone being talked about is coming from external sources such as agents. It is beneficial for agents' clients to be associated with the IU job. The clients might want the job, hope that being thought of in connection with IU will get them a job somewhere else, or maybe just to try to get a raise/extension from their current employer.

The chances are good that the people we're talking about won't be the next IU coach.

& that Dolson is in scramble mode, or considerably down the list…

Or McCollum has been Dolson's target this entire time and we're duking it out with Iowa for him. Loser gets DeVries, lol.

I don't think we can read any tea leaves to say much of anything definitively at this point.

We'll find out whenever the official announcement is made. Thankfully not much longer now.
