With CTA getting a (much deserved) raise. I don't want to hear any excuses that involve money in regards to Archie Miller's job status.

I think this means Archie is staying, we're hiring a young pup next year and we're making football the top priority.

I could be wrong though.. :107:

Perhaps Pap or Chris can help me understand how things work with the fundraising perspective of this buyout. If I were cutting a check to buyout the current coach, I would absolutely want to have some assurances that we had a hot lead on someone I felt confident that we could get.

Is this something that happens? Zero chance I fork big dollars out without having some idea who the realistic targets were. I find it hard to believe others wouldn’t be just as prudent with their money.

Missed this.

Sure, IU back channels to agents. But for the most part it remains agents- but better believe those agents have a feel for where their client is at. My assumption is it remains that way due to the coaching fraternity and it's kinda unwritten rules.

So, yeah, donors aren't going in completely blind- and will sure let their opinion be known as they cut any type of check.

I don't know what to say about that contract extension other than Tom Allen deserves it. But what does it mean for Dolson and IU basketball

We're going full football school. Brad must've said no.

I'll see you at the tailgate in August Chris!

FOOTBALL SCHOOL!

Hopefully the TA raise, which he does indeed deserve, won’t have anything to do with putting a limitation on getting a high end basketball coach. Maybe it’s just a matter of Dolson just taking the reigns and saying “Let’s get Tom what he deserves, and now let’s get basketball back on top.”

I doubt it’s bad. The FB hiring cycle is over and Allen didn’t get poached, seemed to want to stay. They probably didn’t absolutely need to do it to keep him this year. Might be a good sign about fall season ticket sales.

Presumably it helps fend off rumors this fall and beyond. As @Banksyrules mentions, it’ll be good for the whole AD and basketball for FB to keep kicking tail.

I wonder if it even helps the BB search because of that, and because (as @Chris007 just pointed out), it says we’re serious about paying, now and even more when you’re successful.

Allen tops out at 5.5 million on this contract. If we pay that for basketball we can get someone good

Absolutely!

But.. I'm only okay if we're paying $6million to the right candidate. $6-$7million needs to be Brad Stevens - Chris Beard level.

If those are the candidates for BC, then we should be able to get some good ones. It's been mentioned to me a couple of times by different people that IU doesn't want an up and comer, they want a proven winner from a P5 conference.

Ok can someone put together a list of P5 coaches?  Maybe we can help Scott out.

What is the P5 now.

As others have said I'd say this bodes well for the current basketball situation. 1) if $ was so tight like it was thought to be I doubt you give TA a raise at this time 2) it shows that we have an AD that'll pay good money for results. I agree with Treesh that if we're paying $5.5M+ it better be for a top end coach.

I think it means there is and will always be money for IU athletics, and Dolson isn’t ******* around!  That’s how I see it and love it!
You put what I said more elegantly lol

If you find a great football coach that wants to stay, you take out a loan to pay his salary.  The money you get back (only from UNC experience) is ridiculous.
