Weekday mornings often bring new info. Sleep tight. Can’t wait to see what we learn tomorrow.

We’re not getting anything this week.

If we lose Thursday maybe Archie is gone on Sunday or next Monday.

I'm probably wrong as usual, but I think there will be a negotiated buyout and the $10 million figure becomes a moot point.  There's no way Archie can be satisfied with his performance and he's got to see that barring a whole bunch of "ifs" it won't be that much better next year.  He won't have to worry about being unemployed unless he simply wants to take some time away from the game.  He'll have coaching options available.  As for leaving money on the table by refusing to leave without the full $10 million option, I just don't see that happening unless he's a lesser man than I think he is.  Last year and this year can't have been good for his personal life and I think he resigns and walks away from IU.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this already but I’m almost certain, that if he decides to take time off, we can get off the hook for paying the buyout. I could be mistaken. I do remember Crean’s contract had provisions that required him to seek gainful employment. Also remember there being language in there that prohibited him from taking a lesser paying job, if other, more substantial offers were on the table. He could have ended up owing the university. I’m pretty sure CAM’s deal was structured similarly.

Perhaps Pap or Chris can help me understand how things work with the fundraising perspective of this buyout. If I were cutting a check to buyout the current coach, I would absolutely want to have some assurances that we had a hot lead on someone I felt confident that we could get.

Is this something that happens? Zero chance I fork big dollars out without having some idea who the realistic targets were. I find it hard to believe others wouldn’t be just as prudent with their money.

Archie’s contract has a mitigation clause too.

Legally speaking, I'd guess that enforcing something like the bolded might be incredibly hard. But I think it's fair to say he'd be able to go back to a lesser conference. Dayton is currently paying 1.2M, which is actually paying pretty decent for Dayton. I can't see CAM getting an offer for more than 1.5M, but every little bit I'm sure would help to close the gap/loss from any buyout.

Crean is making 3.2M at Georgia.

I’m not sure that Archie will be able to duplicate that pay at his next stop. In spite of all of Creans “issues” his agent and the Georgia AD were able to sell the fan base that a football school was hiring a guy that won the Big Ten two of the previous five years.

What does Archie’s agent say “hey, he came in 6th his first year and then was a very consistent 9th, 10th, 10th” ? I think Archie will have to take a step down the food chain, and prove himself, before landing another 3mm type job but who knows?

If his agent is worth even half his weight he’d probably say he’s a 42 year old coach who just a few years ago led his team to two Atlantic 10 championships.  He’d also say he consistently made the big dance and had an elite eight run. But like you said, who knows.

Late Friday afternoons are good times for those kinds of announcements.

I agree, those times are certainly a good time to throw some news out.

Or maybe Scott will pull a Glass and fire Archie right when March Madness begins. Boy that was funny!

You know you’re on this board too often when you have a dream that you, @Chris007 and @Treesh start a snow shoveling business to raise money for a certain buyout......

I don't even like shoveling my own driveway, let alone anyone else's. Plus I'm hoping it's spring, and there is no more snow. I wore shorts to work today, just to help spring feel more like home.

I'm the last person to ask how any of this works. I'm just hoping someday I have enough money to think about donating enough to help buy out a coach.

He just has to seek employment. He can interview for jobs but that doesn't mean he has to take a job. But I can't imagine Archie not wanting to coach again soon. I think the Boston College job would be a good one for him.
