I sincerely hope its not Cronin.  I do want a winning coach but I hope we can find one that is not a complete curmudgeon.

I know there won't be a candidate that all the fans will endorse as our next coach.  I just hope this fan base can unite and get behind whoever is chosen as our next HC because that will make it easier for that coach to succeed.

It may just be the Jersey in me, but I kinda love a guy who walks around p!ssed off all day for no apparent reason...

Let’s assume you are willing to ignore all the issues with Beard, or just call them fake news and hand wave them— after nearly 10 years of futility do you really believe that IU can take the risk of something happening and torpedoing the hire? When something with this candidate has already happened and torpedoed a job for him elsewhere?

The next hire at IU is going to be the highest stress position in CBB. Period. There will not be a coach in the country under more pressure to win and keep winning. Can we take the chance on him imploding when there are lots of other good options? 
 

Look, if Beard wasn’t laden with baggage that Dolson wouldn’t get through the first presser without getting asked about, he’d be the obvious choice. Unfortunately that is not the case.

 

The “whining” isn’t anymore annoying than people stumping for a guy who is never getting considered because of what he did to lose his last high profile job.

I think we also need to consider how revenue sharing plays into all of this. If they pay Stevens 9-10 million a year that will really cut into revenue payouts for players. Of course, there will still be NIL separately - but something to definitely consider.

I know Beard won’t happen, so I’m done talking about him! However the more I read up on Buzz and what he does for communities, the more I’m going to start beating that drum! I really like what he could bring to IU!

Just an FYI that’s now how it will work. I wouldn’t worry about revenue to players. Separate bucket.

I've not seen too many stumping for him. Just willing to have a conversation. He's in my Tier 3.

For the situation IU is in, we're looking for a blue chip guy to come in and pay dividends right away.

There could be higher upside to buying in early, but we need stability and good yield right away.

....I posted a few months ago that the hiring of Coach Cignetti, his raise and increased raises of his coaches will pay huge dividends for our next coach! Any coach looking at IU NOW can see we are serious about paying our coaches and basketball will be next!

#1. Right now, this opening IS a Top 5 landing spot mostly because of the commitment from the president and Dolson to take care of their coaches by being able to pay TOP dollar to the best coaches in the country. 

Yes, IU's history does play a part too, but money talks more now.

#2. Bucker doesn't have the pull/backing he had on the last hire.

I think most would probably agree that all else being equal, Kelvin Sampson is a better coach than John Beilein. But I also think most would agree that, in hindsight, IU would have been better off hiring Beilein than Sampson. And that's because all else is never equal, and it can never just be about coaching strength. You always have to weigh that against the other factors.
