When posters were ticked he wasn’t showing up on hot boards insiders said at the time he had too many skeletons in the closest to ever be hired by certain programs and IU was one of those programs. Beard doesn’t get hired and ends up getting hired by Texas where he proceeds to have an incident and they fire him. IU passed on him before this last incident. Fast forward to this year and IU insiders actually put him high on a hot board however continue to say that he has a really steep climb to get hired. The guy can coach basketball no question about it however I doubt that will be in Bloomington. Probably in the SEC Totally agree. If UK and Louisville never gave him a serious look, that says all you need to know. OKHOOSIER, Hoosier DaDa, Iufan93 and 5 others 7 1
Popular Post TargaFlorio Posted February 10 Popular Post Posted February 10 Because I'm bored during a snoozer Super Bowl, here's how fast some of the mentioned coaches play on offense (not saying they're all candidates) Kenpom adjusted tempo for this season (possessions per 40 minutes adjusted for opponent) 1. Alabama 47. Arizona 49. Vanderbilt 50. Gonzaga 55. Michigan 90. Florida 97. Iowa St 115. Auburn 120 IU (for reference) 145. Creighton 150. Ole Miss 168. Missouri 172. Marquette 201. Miss St. 227. Texas A&M 267 Texas Tech 301. Baylor 304. UCLA 331. West Virginia 342. Clemson 364. Drake (dead last according to kenpom) Josh, lillurk, WayneFleekHoosier and 5 others 6 2

They are passing and cutting working for the best shot. Yeah just watched them struggle at home with a struggling ISU team. Blew a 13 pt lead Lucky they won in OT. My trees are not good this year so it was good to see them compete at Drake. Had a chance to win it at the end of regulation but got stripped at the rim lillurk and Home Jersey 2

They pass up fast breaks and open shots over and over and over. It’s brutal to watch Yeah, my issue is less with play style and more his body of work (lack of years). They play 7 guys this year, 4 D2 transfers and a JUCO. He’s always played a slow pace but I think passing up fast breaks is somewhat intentional by design with this group. I am baking in an assumption that he would coach not like a carbon copy of this one year. He is still young so I would assume able to adapt on some level. He is smart enough I think to figure things out given time and resources. I think it’s a moot point anyway since he’s very unlikely to be hired IMO. Totally fair to not like passing up open shots, frustrates me too when I watch them. lillurk 1

He reached out this week to ask me if I thought IU would go for Beard. He said several things but a couple of interest: 1. Well known there that Beard is/has been interested in IU. 2. He still has an alcohol problem. Students see him hammered out and about regularly in Oxford. Define "alcohol problem". Yeah but they aren’t a binary choice. You can win playing with pace and lose playing 55 possessions games. It’s about execution. Home Jersey and lillurk 1 1

Getting hammered at a bar when you are one of the highest profile people not to mention best paid state employees is a problem. I suppose you can disagree that this is problem drinking but personally I don’t want IU’s basketball coach intoxicated in public. go iu bb, SlammySammy, AZ Hoosier and 5 others 7 1

Slow, pumpfake, pass, slow, pumpfake, pass Part of that could be the coach game-planning what needs to be done to win the game (novel concept). If he had a team that was more adept at playing a faster pace, he might very well do that. Winning is the #1 priority. Right?

I was told that was not true and made up by pro Dolson people to make it look like he had it on lock and then others came in and screwed it up for him. Meanwhile he was never really coming because his family didn’t want to. That last part should have been known very early on but was overlooked. One of many reasons Buckner and others were able to claim incompetence and push him aside and take control of the hiring and insert their guy, aka plan zzz. I think Pete Yonkman is the voice at the table for Cook. It doesn't mean Ferguson still doesn't hold some weight. You seem to be pretty close to the situation. If I remember correctly Dolson had zeroed in on Matta as his guy and the uncertainty with his health stopped that and Dolson didn't have a plan B? That is the part Brian Evans leaves out of the story. But after that Quinn moved in. At the time Jawan Howard made an elite 8 and Penny was moving in the right direction. The narrative had softened a bit on the alumni coach.

Very impressive D2 resume Net doesn’t include anything non D1 so none of that means anything in the D1 world of things. He is a college basketball lifer so I would have no problem supporting him as an IU coach however posting D2 numbers and comparing it to high major D1 programs is something I personally wouldn’t do just yet IvanRenkosillegitimatechild and cybergates 2
