Who are you talking about specifically? 

People who liked him yesterday still like him. People who didn't, aren't upset he's not coming to IU. 

Everyone has been consistent on that as far as I can see.

Why? I thought with B1G money, a school like Iowa would have all sorts of advantages over a school like WVU. What am I missing here?

I listened to a football podcast a couple months ago. They were saying Iowa NIL was in shambles. That 1 booster is footing the bill to finish out this year because other boosters didn’t pay what was committed to the players. So 1 guy is making sure people get what they are contractually obligated to get. That’s not a good situation. So yeah WV is in a much better spot.

Anyone but Brownell and McDermott.  Hopefully these are all smokescreens.  They struck out on Brad.  Now float out dumpster fire hires like BB and GM so when they announce McCollum or Otz or whoever we are all elated.

Because they are just guessing about Iowa.    It doesn’t really matter if they are wrong.

I don’t want Iowa’s back up.  At best, it’s a “so-so” hire. 
 

BTW - the fact that McCollum is Iowas backup should be a good indication that he too is not our top option/s either.

I think that was largely tied to Fran still being employed. Iowa fans have wanted him gone for years. He told his middle son to transfer out and didn't even bother to recruit his youngest son given the toxicity of the situation. Fran's been waiting on this buyout for a minute.

I would think Iowa's NIL picks up to an extent if they were in fact able to hire DeVries away from WVU.

His resume is impressive, I think he's got a very high ceiling.

Initially I wrote him off because I hadn't really heard of him, but he could be a major steal.

I would probably take someone like McCasland over Huss, but I agree if we're into the McCollum/Brownell tier, then I like Huss better than McCollum. Higher level experience, better Indiana ties, more likely to be able to recruit elite talent off the bat.

IMO he is like their TJ Otz this cycle... they want him, maybe mutual interest or maybe a leverage play. They would have to pay ~4.5M for his buyout + 3M or more in salary. Not to mention NIL. I don't think they're willing to spend for that. 

McCollum is as good as Indiana or Iowa can realistically hope to do this cycle. Unfortunately for us, he is from there, so will probably choose to stay home and kick our tail for the next 20 years. 

DeVries definitively has more D1 experience. But to note, McCollum is from Iowa City, raised in Storm Lake. I read that his mom has a degree from Iowa, he grew up a Hawkeye fan and it has been reported that's the job he wants.  

Will be interested to see what Iowa does here, and if they can pull DeVries from WVU.
