General Coach Candidate News

I'd like to here more about that Mark Few tidbit from last week.  If he put out feelers about the IU job, he is everything everyone wants, just 10 years older than desired. But 8-10 years of Mark Few would be a blast and set the program back on path
I agree and am intriguedby that one ad well! But I think that was said by an insider. Apparently others here tell me I shouldn't believe them...

Once again, feel the love for Beard. He WILL NOT be considered and is not a candidate. Great for him. Go suck a case of light beer and beat another woman. Not here

Just want we need. More virtue signaling from I'm better than yous

Hey Gameface. First off, wonderful grammar.

Secondly, sorry to break your heart on a woman beater. There’s more out there not public on him. It won’t happen. I’ll gladly claim status as not hitting women if that makes me holier than thou. But it sounds like that wouldn’t concern you. Good day.

Who is that guy?

Couldn’t tell you, hosts the Twitter spaces “state of the program” which is kinda a lark for the sweater profile pic crew, not a guy who’s like posting cryptic baloney for clout all the time though like some accounts.

Of course, just hire a great coach. Should have thought of that. 2 things: 1) Every single great coach in the history of sports, not 1 exception, has at some point in their career not been viewed as great. So, are you comfortable with hiring a guy that has great traits but has yet to actually be great? Example: You’d take Nate Oats, right? When Bama hired him he’d coached 4 years in the MAC, won 1 conference title and 2 NCAA tournament games and that was his resume. Anybody who says they knew he was great is lying their a$$ off. You willing to take a shot on a resume like that? 2) If no, how are you poaching a guy already viewed as great? To paraphrase the legendary Noho Hank from Barry, “You want to stand outside Great Coach Hotel with help wanted sign?” Those guys have giant buyouts, massive cache and all the resources they could want, otherwise they wouldn’t still be where they are. You ain’t just writin’ a big check and stealing one of those guys.  To me, it’s not complicated. 1) You identify the traits you believe are necessary to succeed in your specific environment, 2) You identify candidates who possess those traits, 3) You gauge interest and proceed accordingly. It’s not complicated. It’s also not easy.

If it's a question of taking a stab at someone, safest options that could take off - IMO - are these:

McCollum

Schertz

Wade

All have very favorable advanced numbers. McCollum's team is almost totally made over from last year's team, but hasn't fallen off. Schertz put together the best ISU team in memory, same with Wade at McNeese St. All three are young.

Why wouldn’t they be around him drunk at Nick’s or another establishment? He’s still known to go out in public and drink at bars in Oxford.

Students would probably think that’s cool, fans would think it’s cool to have a beer with the coach.

Man that's refreshing after listening to Woodson talk basketball. The man also is just aware, and while it's certain he does his homework on opponents it sounds like he's specifically aware of the situation at Indiana.

Disclaimer: I'm not a Cronin shill. Not an anyone shill, really. Just pro-guys that can run a disciplined, hard-nosed and intelligent basketball program.

I'm in the minority but I'd take him. He's proven he knows how to coach kids to win, but seems like one of those guys still waiting for a big break and under the current college basketball landscape IU is primed to be that program that can help elevate him.

People say hire a coach for their future, not their past. But the best predictor of future behavior (success, in this instance) is past behavior. He's not the sexiest hire largely because of his personality but two of the most successful coaches we've experienced at IU haven't exactly been sweeties themselves. It's not a beauty contest anyway. It's about finding who can consistently put your program in a position to win. He's one of those.

^^not some rumor monger. Not sure it’s some done deal but it’s not just folks around here who think IU is really gonna shoot its shot.

What exactly does this mean? I see the quote that he isn't a candidate but nothing else.

A guy waking up with an oxygen mask on...basically the same as the gif of the undertaker sitting up in the casket.
