It won’t be Brownell but his overperformance whenever he's on the hot seat at Clemson is legendary. Which, at IU, would mean more final 4s and more tournament misses lol

Everyone better says, no, we don’t want to take a chance on an up and comer.  They’ll rationalize we need someone to get us over the hump for the next 5-6 years, become consistent, then make a “big hire”, basically repeat what they tried to do with Woody.

We did that with Archie….we need a proven winner, the money is there, Woody was never a proven winner and many people called it as mistake from the beginning.

I agree with you 100%

There is some degree of risk and yes, the guy has made some mistakes. Some of those mistakes are inexcusable. But people change.

He is #1 on my list. Always has been. I love the guy and think he would build a dynasty here.

Not sure that this will make sense to some people. Hell, a lot of stuff posted here doesn’t make sense. But here’s my take on Beard.

Yes, a good coach who can win big here

Yes, he would be divisive. He might drive off some big donors, but if he starts winning like I think he can, they’d start coming back.

Yes he’s a big risk.

All that to say. Based on his stated love and respect of RMK. Based on him outwardly expressing that he wants the IU job. I think Chris Beard would turn a new leaf in Bloomington. I think he views IU as his church, and RMK his mentor. I believe that he would not do anything that would tarnish those things he holds as so important to him. For lack of better words, I think IU would be the salvation for Chris Beard.

Whether the opportunity exists for him will require some open minds who believe in the concept of redemption. Whether the opportunity exists is going to take leadership who believes that the IU brand is strong enough to take the initial hit it will undoubtedly take, and believe that the reward is worth the risk.

I have personally seen people who have been in as low or lower places than Beard, and have changed themselves to become well respected individuals who contribute to the greater good of society. All it takes is one person, one group of leaders, to give him the chance.

Dusty May is my #1 since BS is no longer a candidate, according to Goodman and only Goodman.  I was skeptical of him last year but this year leading the B10 at this stage made me a believer but Chris Beard is a very close 2nd and I could make him tied with DM.  People do make mistakes and can change.  People should never throw stones in a glass house, everyone has skeletons in their closet, lets give the man a chance if SD chooses to hire him, Stuben you make a heck of a lot of sense!

I’m pretty sure we would all unite against Brownell. That would be an awful hire. Look at the Clemson message boards. They don’t care if he left. Some are even hoping we take him. Wow. That’s a disaster.

It would be similar to the Tom Crean hire in the fact that there were Marquette fans that were happy we took him off of their hands

Brownell would be so disappointing. Very hopeful IU will have the stones to take a chance on a guy whose ceiling is a 25 year knight-esque run (McCollum).

Cronin would get us in the dance every year. I wouldn’t hate it. But you’re not competing for titles with any regularity with that offense.
