Two names getting serious consideration are Dennis Gates and Anthony Grant. The major donors are acutely aware that there are only two African American coaches in the 18 team B1G. They don’t like that Woodson is being forced out and Ben Johnson may be out at MN. They don’t want the B1G to be all white coaches. Think the optics are terrible. They’d like to have Shaka in the mix, but don’t think he’ll leave Marquette. They’d love Tommy Amaker, but his record in recent seasons is a tough sell. Don’t count out Shrews either.

The only viable name here is Gates. Don't see him leaving Mizzou, however.

Grant? He's a mid-major coach. Did well at VCU and is doing well at Dayton, but flamed out at Alabama. Plus, there are rumors that he's retiring after this season.

As for Shrews -- that's a joke, right? There's absolutely no reason to think he's qualified to coach at IU. This counts him out.

Despite regularly going to Colts and Pacers games, Surack admitted to not being a huge sports fan and having only limited soccer knowledge.

“But I like great things in Indiana,” he said, “and I’m always trying to improve and invest in our state.” Surack has never before been in ownership of a sports team, but he has a long history of financially supporting local teams such as the Komets or those at Purdue Fort Wayne. “I don’t need to be an owner to find other ways to engage and support,” he said. “But I like great things in Indiana, and I’m always trying to improve and invest in our state.”

Not sure what you guys need convincing of about normandale’s posts lol. He’s not claiming to know anything! Just sharing his speculation in an amicable way. I maintain nobody knows anything for sure right now and there’s no use getting twisted into knots about rumors. We will find out soon. If people guys want to kill time giving themselves an ulcer about the IU admin being too woke, they can knock themselves out lol.

For sure. They for sure should take advantage of the Dayton to IU pipeline that was started with Archie.

If you think about it, the only way it makes sense for it to be this quiet is that there is a handshake deal with someone  who is a current college head coach, and it’ll get fully worked out when his team is done.

If you’re casting a wide net and talking to lots of candidates, there’s gonna be some leaks here and there. If you’ve come to an agreement with anyone involved in the NBA, there’s zero reason for it to be so quiet (you obviously can’t wait for their season to be over, and Woodson and everyone already knows he’s out. So what would be the hold up? Nothing.)

Logically, all that makes sense is that we have mostly a handshake deal with a current  college head coach and will finalize/announce when his team is done.

So who is it? Well, the bigger the name, the more likely there’d be a leak. There’s been nothing. So my guess is it’s a candidate like McCollum or Byington or Devries.

If his kid actually played or even dressed or ND was actually good I’d put zero weight on it. The president of the Boston Celtics watching two shitty college basketball teams on a random Wednesday is not nothing. His kid isn’t even listed in the box score. Brad also knows any appearance in the state is going to raise eyebrows no matter what the reason. Also as far as I can tell he’s not visited SB once all season. Pretty odd timing if you ask me.

Especially when Boston HAD a HOME game last night.

Also ACC tournament is coming up in Greensboro, NC if he really wanted to go watch ND/ his son wouldn't that make a lot more sense logistically?

I think you're right that this is the most likely scenario.

I agree about there likely being a handshake deal in place, or at least a very specific small group of coaches being the focus, but don't think it reflects a specific group as that coaching source. As an example, SD wouldn't want Stevens or Donovan being known to be the guy as every press conference would devolve into questions about the next coach and it would do no favors to these players and, though I don't really care, this coach.
