A Mike Woodson hire followed by a Brad Brownell hire would be a harder one-two punch to the gut than anything Muhammad Ali could ever dream of landing.

If we hire Brad Brownell to replace 8 years of Archie Miller and Mike Woodson....

IU is basically imploring all of us to get a new hobby.

The post would have been much better received if I had just put Brad Stevens 1 through 10.  Most people want a hotboard that fills their emotional needs.

No just seeing Alford, during this cycle, just does not make sense.  In other coach search discussions, he was coming off pretty good runs but he has been pretty quiet and does not seem a reasonable fit at all.

There was a Candidate thread for Steven’s back in 2021, don’t know what happened to it

Yeah, it just makes sense. People have a hard time keeping up with so many posts in one thread

I'd imagine a Brad Stevens only thread would rival a Joel Osteen telethon.

No doubt, but in a world where Scott Drew (and more importantly his wife) don't want to uproot their lives and everything they've built in Waco coupled with Otzelberger being perfectly content Ames, Brad Brownell becomes a much more realistic candidate than 95% of people on this board want to believe. All that I was alluding too this morning. I definitely see a scenario where Scott Drew and TJ Otzelberger pass on the IU job, in fact, in wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Serious question….if Brownell is a serious candidate, why not Alford?

Pierre Pierce.

Plus following up firing an underachieving alumn to hire another alumn who hasn't performed that well at the P5 level would be a mistake.

Perhaps a separate thread called "I'm Upset with the General Coach Candidate News Thread" would be useful?

Posters could discuss candidates they don't like being mentioned, or how they don't like that everyone doesn't agree with them.

Exactly….we already know Alford failed at the P5 level twice…..

And to string Archie-Woodson-Brownell back to back to back would be insanity, IMO...

Well, we can't say for certain what Dolson or anyone in power is thinking about Brownell (a man I like quite a bit) and what makes him a candidate but in direct comparison to Alford and looking in the NIL era:

Brownell had a strong season in 2023-2024 and then a great tournament run. He is having Clemson's best ACC season in the history of the program after losing PJ Hall and Joe Girard. He also does not have the "former great IU player" tag that could be a detriment in this particular coaching cycle. Compare that to Steve Alford...he has not been past the round of 64 since 2016-2017, Nevada is 15-10 and 7-7 in the Mountain West. You could argue that one is on the ascendancy and the other is on the decline. In addition, I know many AAU coaches and high school coaches in the state of Indiana (certainly cannot speak for all of them) like and respect Brad Brownell and do not feel the same way about Steve Alford.

I'll close with...I do not believe either will be offered the job and this conversation is likely moot.

The amazing thing is that - with hindsight - hiring Alford instead of Sampson would have clearly been the better move. Alford likely would have done at least what he managed at UCLA, and would have been excellent at recruiting the state. Would have also started to wear out his welcome right when Stevens began his assent.

A nice piece of alternate history!

Thread should be titled:
