General Coach Candidate News

Yeah, sure he is. Just because a few donors have tossed his name out and IU is vetting him doesn’t make him a real candidate

Do I think Brownell ultimately gets the job? No. But he’s more than a non-zero candidate.

If it’s not Brad I would be happy with TJ, Drew, McDermott or McCollum.

…..if Few’s agent has been pokin around, could he be a dark horse? He’s a heck of a coach, but gettin’ close to bein’ “long in the tooth”!
I feel the BIGTen is sitting pretty at the top with sooo many perks. Any team in the BIGTen will benefit because of the huge revenue and exposure.
That being said, IU is sittin’ pretty for the first time  in a long time.

Some of these conferences that constantly have awesome teams, come NCAA tournament time, potentially have amazing coaches who would love to play at IU and the BIGTen.

Rumors

Yup. I’m an inveterate process guy. Any name that pops up my 1st thought is what process would land there. With Brownell the only  process that lands on him ahead of roughly 15 other guys would have to include a “from Indiana” filter. Otherwise you can’t get to him. So, yeah, this screams agent hunting a new deal.

I mean so is Michigan

Michigan makes exceptions for athletes.  NW not so much.  Fitz was able to negotiate some relief years ago which is why football could sometimes compete.  Collins probably did as well.  But the are still very stingy on whom the let in.

My reactions to potential candidates:

Cronin: Meh (Good coach, but I don't like him)

McCollum: Meh (Great success at lower level, but not proven)

Buzz: Mildly happy (only an above average coach, but I like him)

McDermott: Very happy

T.J. Otz: Dancing in my living room

Drew: Dancing in my living room

Stevens: Running through the street naked

Brownell: **** you, Scott Dolson

I would say this summarizes how a lot of us feel.  And also reinforces the fact that this is a different search than in the past and there are several options for IU to come out of this with a solid coach.

He’s not even listed on the latest hot board for coaches. Don’t hold your breath…though I would be in favor of the hire

That probably makes it more likely he's the guy, not less.

That having been said, I agree he's a long shot.

Not sure, haven't looked in a while, it was like ten years ago I would lurk it. I know the rivals free one is pretty active still.

I ask because before I moved the Peegs ticket board to premium to help alleviate some scamming activity by non-members I used to refer folks to the ticket board - because it was free at the time.  I started getting responses that when folks tried to access the free board they were prompted to either subscribe to Premium or start a 30 day trial.  So, I just assumed that free memberships were no longer a thing.  If your last attempt was 10 years ago that certainly predates what I am referring to

Thanks for the response.
