General Coach Candidate News

Honest question, because I know there have been plenty over the last 25 years: if Dusty wins the Big 10 and has a very successful career at Michigan for the next 10 years, where would you rank “Woody Gets His 4 Years” amongst all time administration blunders?

Not to worry.  The IU administration will have successfully trashed the IU basketball brand.  We won't have to build one of those more modern 27,000 seat basketball arenas like OSU and UW have.

We are a football school now.

Only problem will be if we keep trying to dribble the football instead of passing.  Some things may never change.

1 team championship level in 6 years is not impressive at UCLA.

Depends on what you consider championship level. I’d say his final 4 team was the worst in the 3 year stretch from 20-23. His team this year is also top 25 by every metric. So that’s 4 in 6 years of teams id be happy with

Exactly this. I’m a long time lurker and very rare poster.  i’m a huge IU fan that lives out of state so I have no information to contribute. This thread has jumped the shark though. I will be moving on until we actually hire a coach.  I trust the A.D. and we should let him do his job and support him.

For my parting advice, if there are posters that you don’t like, block them and don’t reply to them as tempting as it is. They tend to go away when they don’t get the attention they want. Go Hoosiers!

Blocked.

The whole Woodson thing is so far from an "administration blunder" as it could be. It was nothing less that corrupt nepotism. A blunder is a mistake, a miscalculation... this was not that. Buckner and Ferguson set this up with the help of guys like Zeke and Wittman... and it was a massive failure in spite of the "setup".

Losing out on May last year was a byproduct of the corruption.

TBH i think if may was going to leave Michigan for us it doesn’t matter if it’s one year or ten years. If he wants to coach his Alma mater and bring them back to greatness the timeline doesn’t really matter

I hope this correct. Just seems unlikely to me, but the heart wants what the heart wants and if we don’t bunk this hire it may be Dusty’s only opportunity to be the coach here. I’m sure that counts for something.

People should honestly start a “no stevens talk coaching candidate thread” that way the people who don’t want to see Stevens stuff can more easily sift through it than reading this thread. It’s annoying when people try to police other posters (not saying you’re doing that)

It’s the opposite though. This is the general coach candidate news thread and it is dominated by talk about 1 non candidate and attempts for others to have other discussions are being shut down.

i haven’t criticized anyone on here, i just have empathy for those that come here to get general coach candidate news and aren’t able to do that because of the Stevens army that has developed and wanted to snuff out all other talk.

Nobody here -- not one single person -- is preventing Dolson from doing his job.

Guessing and speculating and wishing about our next coach has no effect on his work. It's just kind of a fun little thing fans do on a message board about college athletics.

True to every other coach search we have:

- Infighting about our resident insiders.

- An influx of new posters with hostile attitudes

- Lines drawn, PRO & CON, about a dozen or so possibilities

- Radio Silence from the AD

- Disappointment, woe, and smugness

After weeks of this, a new coach will be announced.  There will be jubilation from many, angst from others.  Then acceptance.  Then the portal lottery will be the attention grabber.  We will win the portal and spend months predicting our success.

Then season begins, hopefully with positive results for a change.

:farting_smiley:

Do we expect the AD to speak before the presser for the new coach?  I don’t.

Probably, he could’ve kept the band together this year had he stayed at FAU though. That’s what I don’t understand about him leaving last year. Maybe he doesn’t want the IU job at all and didn’t want to be at FAU this year when the IU job did inevitably open up?

I truly think this is the only job in the country he’d leave Michigan for and that’s solely because he’s from Indiana and his family is all here.

FYI,

What Cronin said last night about potentially being a candidate at IU (and don't worry; this comes from a free site -- I didn't pirate it).

“I just think it's tough to do that stuff during the season. But actually, you know, the whole thing's gotten so crazy because we had a couple coaches that did it. Tony [Bennett] and coach [Jim] Larranaga. They did it. Leonard [Hamilton]. The coach I replaced, it happened to him during the season. I don't like to see that.

"As far as me, I would never comment on a coaching situation. It would be wildly inappropriate because I’m the son of a coach, and the way I look at it is that Mike Woodson’s the coach at Indiana. Now, that man’s coaching his basketball team, and he was a national champion. I happen to know him. I know Kenya Hunter on his staff extremely well for many years and have tremendous respect for their kids and their team.

"To me, nobody should say anything that distracts anything with them with that. So I just think it would be wildly inappropriate, mostly for what I said, my respect for coach Woodson. He’s over there coaching his team. That’s all that anybody needs to – I understand you guys gotta do your job and ask. That’s my stance on that stuff.”

damn you for posting that.  I was and am against Cronin.  He has a long history, i know much at Cincy without a ton of resources, but i don't see anything that really sticks out.  This quote makes me appreciate him a little more and i don't like it.  Hes extremely unlikeable for whatever reason, again quit it.

Idk getting this job isn’t a guarantee. Michigan and Louisville both wanted him last year and are still two of the best jobs in the country. I’d rather have that guarantee also if i were him. Dolson could’ve easily fired Woodson last year to him. I don’t blame dusty one bit for taking a promotion

No shot 4 of those teams were championship level, maybe 1.5.

The FF team wasn't his best team, at all.

The one championship level team he had was excellent, I enjoyed watching them.. but his 6 years at UCLA look about like Creans last 6 years. It's just not enough at UCLA and Indiana.

To be fair, the trolls drive more round and round about the Stevens topic, it’s much less them trying to discuss other coaches as it is dunking on people. So it is self defeating and drives more Stevens nonsense. We’ve had plenty of discussions about other coaches. Nobody is snuffing out talk of other coaches, they’re snuffing out condescending snark. Huge difference IMO.

Why is Cronin talking like we fired woodson? He is retiring our coaching search isn't the same as firing someone mid season!

Sounds more like its out of respect that Woodson is currently still the head coach, its his team.  Kinda like screwing around with someones wife despite well known marital issues.

I have not seen other discussions being shut down in this thread, plenty of good back and forths about other candidates. No gripes with your posts at all, didn’t mean to come off that way. We have the threads with polls on 40 other coaches. Because of the nature of this Stevens infatuation, it’s easier to contain the non-Stevens talk IMO… either way this should all be going out like a wet fart soon. 6 more weeks til an announcement hopefully

I don’t think May leaves UM after 1 year, so I’m going with McDermott or McCollum!  Let’s get a winner and never look back!

I’m high on McCollum also. I like McDermott but my preference is a younger guy.
