General Coach Candidate News

Archie’s average at Dayton was like in the 50ish range of KenPom….which is kinda where Dayton usually is. He didn’t make them much different from their baseline.  In retrospect, people overvalued him because of one tournament run. He just flat out wasn’t that good at Dayton.

McCollum? This is a dude who absolutely dominated his level of basketball the likes of which is almost never seen at any level. And he’s doing incredibly well at Drake. The guy clearly just flat out knows ball. You can’t win this much for this long and not know your ****. And at IU, he doesn’t have to worry about recruiting in the NIL era.

McCollum NEEDS to be the guy.

I have a different perspective on Archie Miller.  He, in fact, did get the best from his players.  They were a team.  They did not have standouts.  No prima donnas.

That is the difference from a mid major and a top P 5 team.

Archie was stuck with a bunch of me first players.

Per Wiki:

Miller became the head coach of the Dayton Flyers men's basketball team in 2011 and turned around a program that had back-to-back disappointing seasons.[4] His first season with Dayton saw Miller take the school to 20 wins. In his third year, 2014, he had the Flyers in the Elite Eight with 26 wins; to get there, Dayton upset three higher seeded teams. After the Elite Eight run in 2014, Miller faced replacing three starters and four seniors from that team. Despite having a depleted roster featuring just six players who were recruited to Dayton and no active player taller than 6-foot-6, Miller led his Flyers to a 27–9 overall record and to the third round of the 2015 NCAA tournament.[2]

In the following three seasons, Miller averaged over 25 wins and each year coached the team made to the NCAA tournament. The latter two the Flyers also earned regular season Atlantic 10 champion titles.[6] The Flyers' 78 wins in from 2013–16 matched the best three-year period in school history.[2] Due to his coaching abilities, Miller was named a finalist for the 2015 Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year Award.

Anyone attacking insiders or discrediting them should get the ban hammer. There has been enough credible info stating there was at the very least rumors. If so they are all clear imo.

What makes something credible info though? I don’t even know who some of these guys popping up are. When one comes out of nowhere swinging that Brad Stevens is coming, and then hours later Stevens comes out and says he’s not a candidate, it doesn’t paint the best picture:

I’m confused. Drake had a higher kenpom last year than this year. Their advanced stats are fine

They lost their six best players. It’s essentially an entirely different team. And he’s 61st in efficiency. At drake. A program with four tournament appearances in the last like 30 years.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the other candidates being butthurt and everything to do with wasting time on a lost cause when he could’ve been cultivating relationships with other candidates. Last time he allegedly thought Stevens was a done deal, had no backup plan, and ended up with Mike Woodson.

We really have no idea what Scott has been up to in terms of cultivating relationships.  Let’s see what he does.  If he makes a hire that does bad, we can criticize Scott.

Woody was a crony hire.  If Quinn wasn’t around Scott could have moved on to his next candidate.

Do you not recognize that:

1)last time it was mid March when Stevenson said he was a Masshole.

2)No coach worth a flip is focused on  his next job at the moment.

3)Quinn's influence is gone

4)Dolson can chew gum and walk at the same time.

I don't doubt that the "dream" is over, but ...

The Inside the Hall and Sports Illustrated stories offer absolutely nothing new. All they do is report Goodman's tweet.

Media folks I know are confirming Brad is a “no.”  Unfortunately this isn’t a denial of job interest before accepting.

If we tried and he said no, so be it. At least no one can say we didn't do what we could. Now let's move on to the next person. I have no hard feelings against anyone posting what they heard. It could have all been true or had some truth to it. That's just the way these things go.

I mean 3 out of the last 4 years making the tourney. I understand but McCollum is not the slam dunk people are making him out to be. Ive seen him get called the best x and o coach in the country on here and we’ll regret it forever if we don’t get him. I guess how you see him depends on how you view D2 numbers but I’d rather look at kenpom numbers and things like that. Doing that would’ve saved us from archie

Anyone who is critical of Dolson through this needs to take a step back.

The criticism would have been warranted if he had not pursued Stevens. He was willing to push all his chips in, and unfortunately it apparently didn’t work out.

Please hold judgment until the actual hiring is announced.

My criticism of Dolson is a sum of all the basketball decisions he’s made during his tenure as AD. He’ll get some benefit of the doubt when he proves himself capable.

There is an obvious solution Scott

Nothing. Let's get real. This is a free message board. I want to believe stevens is coming. I respect all of their opinions and intel. I have worked and known many compulsive liars. Perhaps these guys are friends with one. Also possible they are purdue fans having fun and laughing at us. In the end this board is for fun. Look at some of the posters for christ sake! Kathy the board member lol. Of course not everyone is real
