You ever been to Holland?

Yes, many times. I have a lake house near there. You? The reason I asked is that the Twitter handle that is posting all the info on the IU coaching situation is based in Holland, MI.

I hope we don't hire McCollum because I call him McGollum in my head and think he kind of looks like Gollum. I don't know if I can deal with that with him as the head coach.

It's not fair, i know, but it is what it is.

But I also don't like the sound of his system. Sounds slow and boring.

I’ve been swayed tonight I want Stevens, Stevens, May, and the McCollum. He can coach, just give him our NIL and he’ll be fine.

About Ben McCollum, I listened to Kent Sterling recently and he mentioned about McCollum and his offensive style being painfully slow...similar to Tony Bennett level of pace. I didn't know much about McCollum's style so I was a bit surprised to hear that. We all know winning cures everything, but would you think IU's fanbase be ok with such style?

Got it. Yes, I live on a lake in NE Indiana and have been to Holland. Lots of great wineries in the area that we have visited

McCollum plays pretty basketball but it's slow pace. They will go deep in the clock on every on possession.

The more I think about this the more I want Beard. We're not hiring someone to teach a moral and ethics class. We're hiring someone to win basketball games. If he can keep his nose clean then it'll be 20 years of excellence. Imagine this time-line: we hire Dusty and in turn UM hires Beard. In the next 5 years IU continues to struggle and May is on the hot seat meanwhile UM has a final 4 and another 2nd weekend trip.

I think Beard can do amazing things here but let’s say he gets off to a good start then sometime in year 2 he has a similar drunken event that embarrasses IU.  He gets fired and if it is bad enough it might take Dolson out too. And/or IU’s embarrassment causes them go very conservative on the next hire in attempts to again deemphasize basketball.

If I am dolson I don’t take that chance unless I strike out on most others and am down to bigger risks.

I feel strongly enough about it to walk away, as well.
Not sure I have to worry about that... He won't be coaching at Indiana...
Never say never. Nobody saw sampson coming

Risky was hiring a 60 something head football coach from James Madison.

McCollum will be insanely successful when a P4 school snatches him up.  Would not be surprised to see Iowa 'retire' Fran just to hire him.

If they bought a lottery and hired McCollum, they won’t but it’s fun to think about, I’’d be good with that. If he succeeds you don’t have to share him with another school. He’s our guy and his success is our success. But the Cig comp just doesn’t work. 2 reasons: 1) Cig had 5 full years of success at the FCS level. Additionally he was the recruiting coordinator at arguably the greatest program in the history of CFB. That’s a lot more resume than winning D2 Nattys. It just is. 2) the expectations for the job Cig took and the next IUBB HC are hell and gone different. If Cig had gone 6-6 he wouldn’t be a God at the moment but we would have been fine with it. If McCollum came here and went 15-15, Houston, we have a problem, particularly since we have no idea how he’s wired for something like that. That’s the sort of hiring decision that gets a guy fired. But I will say this, if Dolson fired a program legend and replaces him with a guy with 1 year at a MM, dude has a world class pair on him.

I want no part of Beard under any circumstances. Too much baggage and too many unanswered questions about his past for me.

The unanswered questions are for Scott D to find the answers to. If the answers satisfy him then by all means, hire Beard. If they concern him further, then don't

For me, I don't really worry about the charge. People make mistakes and hopefully Beard learned his lesson the hard way; he lost his dream job at his alma mater. I think if anything similar happens to him in the future, he'd probably and hopefully walk away from the scene. With that said, the thing I worry more about is his alleged drinking problem.

Most people drink.  His being excessive is not actually known.  To me, if he’s a drunk, it would be hard to coach and run a solid D1 program like he does

Its not just kinda slow, its slowest. Virginia is 363rd in tempo, Drake is 364th. I have no doubts the guy will be successful, but after the last eight years, that's gonna be a no from me.

100%!  It’s not up to the arm chair AD’s.  If Dolson and staff want to hire Beard, I’m going to support him and I hope others on this board will too

He would have to dominate for that to be widely accepted. If you aren’t winning big and you are putting up 50 points a game that would be painful to watch

Most people don't choke and bite their fiancee'.  Overlooking drinking is one thing.  Overlooking domestic violence just cannot happen.
