I am still very skeptical that we will actually get Brad. Just say we did will he leave the Celtics right away from r stay until the end of the Celtics season. To me he would have to get started at IU right away with the portal and building his team.

NBA waiver deadline is March 1st. After that, I don’t believe darn near anything can be done. Celtics are in or facing the second apron, so not like they can do much regardless though. Soooo maybe around then.

Being the president of the Celtics his responsibilities go beyond player personal decisions

I will bite, as I am staunchly in the No pile for Beard. There are many reasons for this, from being a victim advocate, to having a close understanding of DV and how complicated it is to adjudicate. Not rehashing Beard or his actions beyond that.

To accept the hire? That is difficult. I would accept it from the standpoint I as a nobody have no control and have to trust that the AD and University did a thorough job vetting. That does not mean I cannot also object morally. A lot of us kept getting called names for having that opinion and given strawman "wELL wOuLD yOu sToP RoOtInG FoR IU" questions. I can object to a hire and still root for my alma mater, both things can be true.

I am not a choir boy. I know what the inside of Hamilton County Jail looks like, and not as a visitor. But not for violence. I would be fine with Few, and he has a DUI. Certain issues are more complicated than simply "accept the hire."  There are certain lines, that for me cannot be crossed, and DV is one of them. There may not be fire so to speak, but there was a TON of smoke.

Anyways, sorry if that is clear as mud. And that will be the last time I discuss Chris Beard beyond his coaching status.

Cheers.

Pretty much where I am at as well

My bad. I am legitimately trying to understand what it would take for people to accept him at IU.

The Old Testament part of me says “screw that guy, you don’t ever lay hands on a woman.” The New Testament part of me thinks that he can’t be beyond redemption. I just want to understand what that redemption looks like.

If Beard came out and said he fu€ked up and was truly apologetic, and went to high schools to talk about how he fu€ked up and tried to turn this whole thing into a cautionary tale, would that be enough?

If he was sincere and not just doing it for a job, and he spent time in women's shelters volunteering, then yes I'm starting to believe he cares about more than himself winning basketball games.

I’m not straight up opposed because I believe that given how buttoned up this school tends to be on things if they made a move with him it would be with due diligence down to the bone. But this is why he’s not probably top 5 for me despite being an elite coach: 1) He beat a woman. He did that. I don’t care if she refused to testify and they dropped the charges. The police report’s clear. He did it, 2) The alcohol thing is a concern. When a guy literally drinks himself blind at a Christmas fundraising event for freaking boosters, it’s not nothing. 3) The guy deflected UT questions by calling himself “the most honest guy you’ve ever met. If I say I’m not going, I’m not going.” Then he went. 4) Not saying that stuff is prohibitive on its face, but it’s not nothin’ and that stuff happened with much less scrutiny and heat than this job. Human frailty is more likely to arise under heightened scrutiny. 5) Hovadipo made the point elsewhere, and it’s a good one: If you’re Dolson and making as big a hire as you’ll ever make, are you really tieing yourself and your career to a grenade? I might be willing to overlook or talk myself most of that stuff if I thought he was just miles better than anyone else available, but I’m not sure that’s true.

If I'm tying myself to the grenade, do I have control of the pin?

I am really curious if they would even consider announcing someone not currently coaching cough Brad cough before the season was over. After that glowing retirement announcement, it feels like handling Woody with kid gloves would mean Dolson would not and could not make an announcement until he is actually done. If so, as a couple have said, it is gonna be a long wait lol.

If they're anything like the women's shelters around here, he probably wouldn't be allowed to volunteer there. I volunteered at a shelter for women escaping domestic violence and to be allowed to do so one has to get a fingerprint clearance card, which checks the person's criminal record for disqualifying arrests and charges. In this case, violent offenses. Even though he wasn't prosecuted, he was arrested.

Thanks. This is the kind of answer I was trying to illicit. I think I must have worded the question poorly. I keep getting answers to why not, I am looking for what it would take for people to be open to it. I can accept that there are people that will never be okay with it, but I also have to believe that most people aren’t beyond redemption. Maybe he doesn’t deserve grace, but it also seems that grace is in short supply these days.

I come back and jaybob yells at me for making things up. Then Yeags confirms. Thanks for the warm welcome jaybob!

Did you stop reading after the first line? It looks like Jaybob was actually on your side. The first line looks like a quote or paraphrase of what a mod said to you on HSN.

Stop spreading rumors here for the sake of it or else…….

That really irked me that mod did that on HSN. As someone who founded that original site, very, very upsetting. Makes you wonder why they have a lot less posters over there?!

I appreciate the comment, but that is not really where I want this to go. I understand your position. I am trying to understand what it would take for the other side to accept him.

They never well they made that very clear a few days ago. There are no second chances for him was what I gathered from them. So assume they would likely quit watching if we hire him.

Okay, so you are not straight-up opposed. I understand why you think it won’t be him, I want to understand what he would have to do for you to accept him as Indiana’s coach?
