Well I was listening to Kent Sterling last week and he said he was talking to a friend.  This friend was in a store talking to some guy who mother is a real estate agent.  This was before Archie was fired and the friend said that this real-estate  agent said that Brad and his wife was looking at a house in Southern Indiana.  When Kent heard that he didn't think anything of it but after Archie was fired he remember that conversation.

Dear Lord no.

Although it would be fun to watch reactions to this on the Purdoo boards.

Seth Greensburg says Tony Bennett wouldn’t answer a call.

Says Brad Stevens is probably staying with Celtics.

Seth is naming random names now for the job.. Zeke.. Alford.. Fife..

He says it’s not as good as Job as everyone thinks.

I was told years ago that Greenberg wanted the job either when we hired Sampson or Crean.  I guess it lost some luster when he didn't get it.

He has also never been in a spot where he could go get whoever he wants to fit his style right away.   Transfer will not have to sit out a year.  In my opinion he could win right away
I also think he could win right away and I also think he goes to top 3. For me that's never been the issue with him. It's as simple as the transfer of leadership when he's done. If it goes like Ryan to Gard then cool but it could very badly as well and we're right back to square 1.

No. John beilein is almost 70 years old and was just fired after about 20 games in the nba for calling players thugs. You don’t think other coaches will use that against him in recruiting?

The "Thug" comment is way overblown.  John and ownership parted ways because John had expectations that during practice players practiced.  Instead, they were playing video games, late for practice etc.  John and Ownership had different views on how to handle this.  His Thug comment had nothing to do with them parting ways.  John wanted a team and wasn't willing to sacrifice process for primadonna's.  John's style does not work in the NBA, he'd be the first to tell you that, now.

The Beilein reaction is fascinating. His years at UM he was in any conversation for the best guy in the country. For me, he’d be #1.  And yet we’ve got folks running around talking about him like he’s some kind of geriatric retread scrub. Stop it. Sure, the age is a thing so the plan would have extra moving parts. And the recruiting and long-term culture pieces would have to be part of that. It’s a legit issue. But the 1 indisputable thing is that if Beilein is on the sideline in AH in November, IU will never, ever get out coached. He is a premium guy.

I'm a bit surprised at the level of negativity too, even as someone who doesn't have him terribly high on my list. Coaching track record in college alone? I'd be thrilled to have that. The age is always a concern since we've cycled through many coaches in the last 2 decades but you're hitting on the moving parts that would alleviate some of that concern. The thugs comment is nearly as big of a concern to me. Regardless of his intent, he'll have an uphill battle in recruiting every single time b/c of that comment and recruiting is hard enough, especially if you're doing it clean. If that alone delays him getting things going we could be talking about him in his mid 70s before he gets us where we expect him to get us. Then we are already talking about another transition, even if those moving parts were in place, which scares the crap out of me.

All that said, if in the end, he is out next coach, and it happens b/c 1a, 1b, and 2 were not feasible.....well holy cow we had a heckuva #3 choice that I ultimately think the fanbase will get behind pretty easily.

I’m trying to understand why he hasn’t said “yes” yet ( More money, better job security, close to home), and with COVID I would think he’d want more time with family.

It looks like there are more than 30 games left in the Celtics regular season. Even if/when he said yes, it seems possible that we may not hear about it quickly or like we might with a college coach.

It has worked for Purdue pretty well going from Keady to Painter.

Damn it, you guys got me falling for this and I should know better!!

We all should know better!  For me the difference this time around is that Dolson made a tough decision to fire Archie and is now not hiding behind a "Search Committee" to make the decision.  He is owning his position and I am cautiously optimistic that he is going to bring in a great coach.  Maybe that is Brad Stevens, maybe it isn't.  I just feel better about the process this time around.

This site is on the brink of legendary status or failure.  The misfortunes of another site has delivered many new faces just as we're talking about Brad Stevens as our next coach.  If he does become coach, this site will supplant all others.  If he does not, this site will be a Stevens punchline.

Transformative times.  I'm glad I'm here to see it.

If we don’t get Stevens and we hire Alford or Mussleman I’m bringing this site down by myself. Throw Drew in that list as well!
