Because if Thamel knows he’s not going to Iowa because he’s going to IU, wouldn’t he just break “Devries to IU”? If that is the case, why wouldn't he just put 'Devries to remain at West Virginia'? I think he is just stating what he knows: DeVries not going to Iowa. Jeff Flabjohns and cybergates 2

Popular Post Asha’man Posted March 18 Popular Post Posted March 18 I think this is where all the Stevens, white whale, big fish rumors hurt the program. I appreciate the insiders as they have brought the goods on recruiting. But I said this before and I’ll say it again the insiders have never been right on the coaching searches. I’ve been around since before Sampson was hired and each times the insiders would throw out these rumors, and it was always false. But let’s not crucify them. Let’s just back the next coach. If it’s DeVries, let’s support him and the program. He is a damn good coach and would be our best coach since Sampson. thebigweave, raorIU, go iu bb and 18 others 17 4
cleeter Posted March 18 Posted March 18 1 minute ago, JustWinBaby said: I want it to be Brad Stevens as much as anyone. But the reality is that: 1) Being a college coach is a much harder, higher pressure job than what Stevens is doing now. He actually is getting to enjoy his wealth; few college coaches get to do that until they're retired. 2) The IU job just simply isn't what it used to be. It can become a great job again, but as of right now it's not a major destination for most coaches. That said, we have more resources than all but a handful of programs, so there's no limit to what a very competent coach can achieve here. As far as I can tell, DeVries is a better X's and O's coach than anyone we've hired in the last 25 years aside from maybe Kelvin Sampson (and it has taken him a long time to get to where he's currently at). He's also a really solid recruiter who has brought quite a bit of talent to West Virginia despite relatively meager NIL resources compared to Indiana. This hire should not disappoint anyone. I'm already pumped to see Tucker DeVries in an Indiana jersey. Let's do this. 1) He has said he wants to get into coaching again and his buddy Shrews even said he thinks he coaches again. 2) I do think the IU job is still a top job, but even if its not, it has been said by brad that IU is his dream job Not saying it is Brad, but to me those statements might apply to every one else, but not necessarily to him. You could be 100% right, i am just trying to play devils advocate here. Juwan Moye 1

Just look at this board the last two months and that proves their point because bwe are insane. Every day a new name comes out and we flip out We also believe every little thing that is posted and take it as gospel and that just allows for people to have fun at our expense. Most of these podcasters and posters are playing most of you like a fiddle and are enjoying every second of it. Most if not everything that is said is from the coaches agent and nobody outside of the IU administration knows a damn thing RELAX IU has 790,000 grads. How many people total are on IU sports message boards? How many of those are IU grads? Not remotely representative of the actual fan base. mdn82 and Hoosierfanyuh 2

If it ends up being DeVries, we are getting ourself a hell of a coach. WVU this year was 20th in overall defense, and 9th in the country in defending the 3P, he also really emphasizes 3s over 2s (WVU attempted 849 3s compared to IU's 632). His brand of basketball is modern, and very different than Archie/Woody ball we are accustomed to. He'd also bring his son, and most likely Stone, Amani, and Powell with him. He knows how to work the portal. Not sure why people are questioning whether or not he'd be a good hire - i'm guessing because everyone wanted the grand slam hire, myself included. But he'd be the best hire since Sampson Amazing to me that people would rather have Mccollum over Devries. There's a reason why Devries is the consensus option 1 between the two. He's got high major experience, he can coach, he has proven that he can recruit (top 20 recruiting class coming in), Drake was pitiful before he came and turned them into what they are today, and his son is a bona fide STUD. cybergates, Juwan Moye, AKHoosier and 4 others 5 1 1
