On this note, I've heard that people sometimes ask his kids if their dad would take the IU job -- not surprising.  I've heard their response is he would not.  Is that the truth?  Or the only answer they can give?  I don't know.

I continue to think Scott will get us a good coach.  It's sort of funny, some people get mad at him, but he's probably a bigger IUBB fan than anyone on this board.  He's on our side and he has been doing a great job the past few years.

And lastly, unless we see someone like an Osterman or Thamel say we are getting close to ending this process, I don't put any stock in these endless donor/agent rumors and "it's done" stuff.  A lot of media are not using good judgement to filter out rumors and legit facts.

Anyways, I'm still optimistic here down the stretch.

The thing you have to wonder about Collin’s is if he can come here and leverage IU’s resources in recruiting the way he and K did at Duke when he was recruiting there. If he could do that and build out rosters like Knight did with the best kids from Indiana and the contiguous states with the occasional nation-wide 5* like K did, he could build a monster. I mean any coach could theoretically do that, but I say Collin’s specifically because he’s lived it up close with K, has the regional recruiting network already, and we know he has the coaching chops to succeed in the B1G.  
 

He’s my one dark horse candidate that I can talk myself into returning IU to its former glory not only in accomplishments but in “style.”

(FWIW, my only other 3 are Stevens, Wright and Bennett. I think success under the other coaches is possible but looks and feels different)

To say they don’t understand is probably not a fair characterization.  Perhaps a reasonable position for some is that because Collins is N’western’s best coach, that means he’s better than Bill Foster, Bill Carmody, etc, & I don’t think they or any other Northwestern coach has done much elsewhere, so that may just be a tallest midget accolade.  The bottom line is, some believe in the old Bill Parcells adage that you are who your record says you are…

Collins would be a fantastic choice. How many players can you name that he had that we’re all Big Ten. Making the big dance at Northwestern is like winning the national title at I U . He has kicked our tail most of the time with far less talent. I 100% support Collins as next coach.

But does it?

Just look at academic requirements. Do other schools deal with that?

And the other NU coaches? Did they have to deal with the transfer portal? NIL? Collins probably had NU in the dance before Barnhizer went down with injury.

I’m not saying he should be the first choice. But he’d do well in Bloomington.

Wait…you don’t think guys like Bill Carmody and Tex Winter are good basketball coaches?  
 

If you are who your record says you are, Carmodys best season at Princeton is better than McCollums and a bunch of other candidates bandied around here.

I absolutely think they’re GOOD basketball coaches.  I wouldn’t say they’re GREAT coaches.  I’m hoping for a great coach.

I don't see any of the IU players names in the portal this morning....I do see a bunch of other names rolling in.....I am going to assume that they do not know who the coach is yet....
