McCollum will be very good for Iowa. I didn’t like him for Indiana. I love his fit at Iowa. He can mostly keep the roster intact. They recruit at the level he’ll excel at. They won’t likely win national championships but they will be Good Fran level which is solid.

Indiana needs to make a statement. The conference is improving around us.

Ready for Brownell?

I'm wondering: why does McDermott have such good odds in the IU Coach Betting Market?

Is he due for a contract extension too? With Brownell, he seems like one of the last ones who can leverage this coaching search for a raise/extension.

That's the only reason I keep coming back to him, because him jumping from Creighton to IU at this stage of his career is puzzling.

But Vegas always knows.

The type of guys mccollum would get don't require a ton of nil. Iowa seems perfect for him.

Him and Painter can duke it out for diamond in the rough 3 stars.

Dusty and Izzo/his successor will win most of the high level recruiting battles.

IU will probably continue signing a token 5 star that's a borderline 4 star every year and underwhelm. Portal U.

I just don't think we have nearly as much going for us as a program as many of us would like to think.

I don't see DeVries leaving WVU for Iowa. I think a strong argument could be made that WVU is a better job, unless he just really wants to go home and coach at Iowa. Also, is Iowa going to pay his buy-out, up his salary and have money for NIL? WVU could match anything thrown at him I'd assume.

Now, for McCollum...makes absolute sense.

Not in this case.

Beard and Wade are completely different spheres of issues. Wade didn’t hurt anyone and didn’t do anything that many more established, high profile coaches weren’t also doing. He was just the up and comer the NCAA could crack down on. If IU is still sticking to its holier than thou attitude then the administration deserves all the Ls coming its way.

I'm lumping Wade into the Pearl category of "issues" which I personally do not care about whatsoever in this cycle.

We know that people are using the IU opening as a springboard to other jobs and/or raises at their current gig.

My thoughts are...if these other jobs (NC State, Iowa, etc) can make the moves seemingly so quickly*, why isn't Indiana?

Signs, to me, point to the realistic opinion that we have our guy, whomever it may be

*this is from an outsiders opinion.  I realize that I know very little in terms of timeframe/timetables

They haven’t made their moves that quickly.  Miami is the only one with a new coach and he was an assistant.

I'm not 100% up to speed on the details of Wade's allegations, but from what I am aware of, I can get over them much more easily than Beard's issues. At this point, hope they're talking to him at least.

He got busted giving bags to recruits before NIL was legal. He was doing what most schools were doing but he got caught and suspended. Then got fired after more details came out. His lack of contrition didn't help either.

I just don't think there's any way Dolson hires Wade. Most of us are old enough to clearly remember Sampson. I was at his hiring press conference and a student for his 1.5 seasons. Everybody says what he did is legal now and that's true.

But, so much of the blame fell on the IU administration because Sampson had been caught before at Oklahoma and IU still hired him. Dolson's been at IU in one form or another for nearly 40 years. I just don't see him taking the risk of hiring a prior offender, even if it's "legal now".

McDermott has gone from -500 to -175 this afternoon, probably because of the Brownell chatter earlier since he's locked. Will be interested to see how it shifts with the Iowa vacancy now official.

The plane from Bloomington has arrived in Teterboro.

Two more planes are scheduled to leave Teterboro soon heading for Bedford.

Does WVU really have more money than Iowa?

Why? I thought with B1G money, a school like Iowa would have all sorts of advantages over a school like WVU. What am I missing here?

Iowa basketball has to compete with Iowa women's basketball for NIL too. Not just football.
