General Coach Candidate News

I wish I could say there was no news in this search but unfortunately we have gotten plenty and none of it seems good. Rabby and Goodman will get my Benefit of the doubt over regular posters imo. Praying for stevens but realize we are probably down the list and scrambling behind the scenes. Woodson staying for year 5 is no longer worst case scenario. Hopefully he makes a elite 8 and hangs on 1 more year of we are just going to hire a prayer

Things aren't that bad yet. LOL

It took Woody 3.5 years (and an injury and a firing...err.... a "retirement") to realize that maybe, just maybe, it's better to play without two bigs on the floor at the same time and to put your best shooters out there.

We could get nearly any competent college coach at this poin and he would be better than Woody and would be more open to change...

So YOU get to decide which rumors are viable? GTFOH

This thread is nearing 2000 pages. We've been discussing Beard since around page 800. And now we have multiple credible sources saying he has been vetted and is not a candidate. Personally I would prefer to discuss individuals who actually are candidates. That's just my preference though, and I shared that.

If you would like to continue discussing someone who, according to credible sources, is not a candidate, then feel free. There's even a dedicated thread just for him. As far as I'm concerned it's a complete waste of time however.

Anyways, you're rude. You immediately came in hot attacking me for sharing information that's been corroborated by multiple reliable people, basically stating that if it's not on ESPN it's not true. I gave my opinion based on that information. That's what a message board is for. If you want to be spoon-fed your info hours/days after it's already news, then stick to ESPN I guess. Otherwise quit being a d!ck.

IUFB was predicted to be a bottom feeder in the conference and got "demolished" by the two teams that played for the championship. I think May is a good coach, but the optics are not great since he signed his contract extension.

And Michigan was dead last last year.

My larger point being we don’t really have enough good data points to extrapolate anything meaningful out of most of these situations, so we substitute feelings and fandom.

The reason people get fixated on proven successful guys is because it’s the only way to really eliminate the risk of hiring a coach. As far as young guy resumes guy, Michigan is in a pretty good spot with May. And IU football is in a pretty good spot with Cig. IMO, of course.

I agree, should trust Scott. Dude is a very smart man, and believe me he wants IUBB to win and win big (why he wanted to run a full background on Beard just in case). he's a fan, manager under Knight and is currently in his dream job at the university he loves. he knew he needed to move on from Woodson in a way that wouldn't upset the few still in his corner, but did so knowing he didn't have a coach in waiting or 1 already signed up. he knew a late season run could happen and wanted to get ahead of that, pretty smart move looking back on it.
Again, our next coach could still be any of the names on his original list. or could be someone we aren't even talking about. he will do what he thinks is best for IUBB but it takes someone very confident in themselves to want this job as well

The old late sead9n run by Woodson would have been worst case for year 5. Luckily he goy ahead of it.

Indeed. I think Woodson would've had some legitimate ammunition to support his case for a 5th year at this point. Especially if IU goes on a run in the BTT or even the NCAAT. Would've just divided the fanbase further. It's good we got it out of the way and settled long before any of that. Now it doesn't have to be a distraction for the players or the staff at the most important point in the season.

But you're not. Just arguing. We all know the pros and cons of everyone at this point. Guess I can just keep scrolling until I see a name that actually provides possible info

I'm amazed you think you're going to get "info" here.

But no, it's a message board, I'm doing exactly what its purpose is.

Actually -- that is the worst-case scenario.

Woodson is not a college coach. He doesn't recruit. He's lazy. He's arrogant (without being able to back it up). He was a very bad choice.

Richie Pitino and Brad Brownell -- I have no interest in those guys. But I'd take either in a second over Woody.

Yes, I’d bet any coach we’ve been talking about would have done better with this year’s team than Woody, the question is could they have gotten them all to come to IU?

Anyone willing to take a break from all the repetitive points, just let a day happen and whoever hears sees anything wait for them to post it here?

You sweet summer child. I love that you live in a world where this would be possible!

This is a officially the "General Coach Candidate stream of conciousness" thread.

Dang i was hoping for some major leaks after woodys last game in AH

Assuming we make the NCAA tournament, I don't think we're going to hear anything at earliest until we lose in it. Assuming we don't make it to the sweet 16, that means we'd hear something no earlier than between 3/20 and 3/23. And even then, we'd only hear something if our new coach is available, meaning either it's Brad/Jay Wright/Tony Bennett, etc. or our new coach's team has also already lost.

We can kinda start to figure out things by process of elimination once we lose and other teams start losing. Say we lose 3/20 and Iowa State, for example, gets upset on 3/22, but Drake makes the sweet 16. If we don't hear anything by that following week (3/23 on), we can probably assume Brad/Jay Wright/Tony Bennet/ and also Otz, are not the new coach, but perhaps McCollum is.

People can't post info here?? Like, someone from the twitterverse? Or words on the street??  But yes, do the message board purpose, the same messaging over and over and over again.

Like to certifiably Pumper you in the mouth, also, over and over again. If you talk like you message, it'd be open enough for the taking

There would definitely be some challenges but  got to say I wouldn't be mad at this hire - again I'd have some concerns but more I read about/watch this guy the more I'm ok with taking the chance:

Great interview.  I like his approach to coaching.  As with Coach Cignetti, it’s process driven.  If folks are concerned about this coach, then watch this podcast.
