General Coach Candidate News

Dolson has his guy, a search firm is totally normal, they've had one for each of the searches in the last 2 hires.

It's been completely silent. Utah, Miami, FSU have hired their coaches. Indiana is waiting.

None of those teams hired an active CBB coach. So that's a good indication that IU will hire someone who's still coaching. It's a great opportunity to continue to study the candidates.

That's honestly crazy to me. If you trade CMW and Mgbako for Stirtz and McCollum.....we are a top 25, at least.

Drake has played one tournament caliber team all season (Vanderbilt) and arguably had his worst game. 16 points on 14 shots with 5 TO's. Nice player but he's not a feature guy on a B10 contending team.

Stirtz vs Kansas St--- 22p 4a 3s 8-13 FGs

vs Miami- 21p 6r 6a 8-17 FGs

vs Vandy- 16p 11a 5r 2s 5-14FGs

He'd be our best player. I didn't say a thing about "featured" guy.

Drake played one tournament caliber team, their best player had a terrible game, and they still won by 11 points?

He has 16 pts against a pretty solid Vandy team and this is your argument for him not being a good player?

LOL

My guess is because BS has been on the hook before but got away. Until he signs, announced and starts the job I think it is a risk with him.

Exactly - even if SD feels it's +90% with whatever candidate - he'll have some strong candidates in waiting so the Woodson madness doesn't happen again (Board swooping in with their own hire). Until everything is signed and you have the press conference - you keep working the job.

Kansas State was 15-16 and Miami was 7-24.

You're not contending for a B10 title is Bennett Stirtz is your best player. Not doing this anymore with you. He's good enough to compete at this level but he's not a starter or best player or whatever you keep inferring him as on a top 25 team in a P5 conference.

Clear as day. Brad is trying to buck us off but we’re good for all 8 seconds. Winner winner.

I don't care what you're doing anymore lol

he's 100% a starter on a T25 team, like... pretty clearly.

He'd be our best player.... not that I want him to be, he just would be.

One thing mentioned during the Bradley game I thought was interesting.  McCollum said at the beginning of the year that a good D2 player could compete at a mid-major D1 school. It gave me pause. How steep would the learning curve be for talent acquisition?

Your answer is in your statement. He knows talent. I think he would be able to recruit better at IU.

Not directed at you, but that theory is the most ridiculous of all. People act like Stevens is a middle school girl. The guy is as professional as you can get. So is Tracey. If he was interested in the job, he and Dolson would have discussed it long ago. They would have had a framework for a deal. Minor terms back and forth. No multiple offers trying to get a response.

Not walking away from an agreement. Just not how the guy operates. There is no agreement.  I do believe Dolson has probably had discussions with him to get his input on the search.

JFC I didn't say he wasn't a good player. I said he's not a featured player or a best player on a team expected to contend for a B10 title. If your best player needs 14 shots to score 16 points against a team that's a 9 or a 10 seed, you're going to struggle most nights.

He's a serviceable player that I would expect McCollum to bring over from Drake if he is hired, but not one I would expect him to build around. I think 6th man/Galloway type role as a starter is a good spot for him. If Bennett Stirtz is IU's best player next year, we're in trouble.

Josh Schertz brought over two of the best players in the MVC last year to St Louis next year and they went 18-13 in the A10 this year.
