I graduated from IU; my daughter graduated from IU. If I'm Sparks, I'm not going to IU to come off the bench. Starters like to start and Sparks has been starting in college for two years.

Others? Some of our best posters have real, locally obtained "inside" information. But they also sometimes post without inside info, so when they speculate that doesn't always mean they have inside info. Chris, for instance, is clear that sometimes he is wondering, and sometimes he has more than that.

Even with a more free-flowing offense, not run through the post, you still need two bigs. As has been mentioned, Reneau is foul prone and goes through defensive lapses. 

You'd have Reneau at something like 25mpg and Sparks at something like 15-20mpg. Maybe 5 of those minutes are together. 

If he comes off the bench it’s fine, but I’d be surprised if he transferred here to be a back up. Especially given our lack of  big guys. Not sure Reneau is big enough to start at the 5.

I'm not sure why some think kids only want to be guaranteed starting roles. Or that they shouldn't go here or there without being guaranteed a starting role. 

A lot of kids understand that minutes are earned. They are willing to transfer because they have an opportunity to compete at the highest level. Maybe take advantage of what they perceive to be a better system, better coaching. 

The NIL opportunities are more fruitful. Maybe there are more connections at a school like IU for life after basketball. 

Kids that don't start from day one in a college program can still flourish and have great basketball careers. 

Some kids have dream schools.

A lot of kids recognize the bigger picture.

Really shocked were debating why a starter would leave ball state to potentially not start at iu lol. Million reasons. A power 5 school gives a national audience to showcase your skills.

Yep.  Wife and I met there.  Kid just graduated.  It was pretty cool hanging out 30 years later.

A person looking out for their own interests gets to pick what those interests are.  Maybe he saw how much TJD developed under Woodson and can see how he could develop as well.  Maybe playing at IU was a personal goal of his and he wasn't offered out of high school.  Maybe he would like to stay close to home yet play against better competition.  Maybe he will start at IU or believes that he will.

Who the hell knows if Sparks would start or not? Especially the way 18-22 year olds can improve rapidly in a more competitive environment… ask me again in 8 months
