Is there anything that gets Crean gone after this season?? How about 5-6 conference wins with this talent and no tourney?? We haven't played a game outside of Indiana since the Kansas game. Between the bad in-state recruiting, constantly getting smoked in Indy, always get smoked at Purdue, and losing at Ft. Wayne, I'm starting to wonder if this has been on long, big joke. The absolute writing on the wall was getting blasted by Syracuse and they're bum of a coach in 12 with absolutely the best team in the land with 5, 1000 point career scorers on that team. Cheater Boheim did to Crean what Knight did to him in 87. Crean will never again have that much talent nor will he hang a legit banner much less get us to a final four. HoosierTrav Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 This recruiting season should have told us everything we needed to know. People aren't buying what Crean is selling. And how can you even blame them? Sent from my iPhone using BtownBannersOpposing coaches and hs/aau coaches within the state have themselves a smorgasbord of reasons to steer kids away from IU. schoosier Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 Many say who else we gonna get or it has to be a home run hire. I say bull. I gave a viable list 50 pages ago and 2 are coaching in the NBA; 1 maybe not for long. There's a start with Hoiberg. Saban got his clock cleaned in the NFL which didn't scare Alabama granted he won a NC at LSU. Hell, give an upcoming D2 coach with Indiana ties a crack. Knight came from Army for God's sake but a damn good AD saw the promise and gave him a chance. The right coach could be the next one, and if it isn't; then the next one could be. But when the entire seating capacity in Assembly Hall collectively can see how horrible this product is, how freaking dumb or blind or stubborn can one AD be? Popular Post Old Friend Posted January 4, 2017 Popular Post Posted January 4, 2017 I'll ask this question again, as I liked the dialogue it created last time I did. When is the last time anyone said Indiana had the best coach in the building when we played a good team? Tom Crean has a system. He spreads the floor, recruits kids who he thinks can succeed in a catch and shoot offense, and runs a decent secondary break. When teams take that away, as Wisconsin consistently does, Indiana loses. I haven't looked everything up, but I know for sure that in the Butler, Louisville, and Wisconsin loses (and I think Nebraska, too), we've had more turnovers than assists and more turnovers that our opponent. Why? Because we have nothing to fall back on, Tom Crean is being paid millions of dollars to recruit mediocre recruiting classes, have teams devoid of basketball players who understand the game, a team now devoid of leadership, and an offense so elementary, a 6-6 team can come into our building and beat us. His team can't guard. His team doesn't play fundamentally sound and makes consistently poor decisions with the ball. We put-rebounded Wisconsin tonight by 7, and we made 4 more FT's. As usual, turnovers and horrible shot quality got the best of us, and we got beat. (Seriously, I have never seen a college team settle for or have to take as many bad shots as Indiana does. If we don't get a good look in the first 8 seconds of the shot clock, has anyone else noticed how much we struggle to get good shots in the half court??) The pattern is very obvious, and the flaws were there when Verdell Jones was here. Cody Zeller, Victor Oladipo, and Yogi Ferrell (and frankly, Dwayne Wade) can mask a lot of deficiencies, and I'm sorry....but Tom Crean is not a solid basketball coach. He might not be even top 5 in this state. MikeRoberts, Napleshoosier, ALASKA HOOSIER and 8 others 11 Quote
HoosierTrav Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 Glass needs to follow him out he has been useless for years.Sent from my XT1650 using BtownBanners mobile appNot sure I agree that Glass should go. He has accomplished some great things at IU. I will say that it's really scary to trust him with the next hire. If he can be the guy that made the mistake of extending Crean, then he's most certainly capable of botching the next hire. Not exactly the best judgement/business/basketball decision. I'm inclined to want to give him a shot to redeem himself on the next coaching hire. 8bucks 1 Quote
Bobman1 Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 Question -- If Crean manages to turn this around, we finish a game or two shy of the Big Ten regular season title, but we do well in the Big Ten Tournament, not necessarily win it, but we do well. And then in NCAA we make the Sweet 16 but lose a close one to an extremely hot team who would beat anyone on that night. Would you guys want Crean gone?Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Quote

Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners I don't think he's a good coach. If this team achieves what you asked, it'll ONLY be because we make shots and teams let us do what we already do well. It will NOT be because of anything Crean does. He's not changing. There's a reason his teams have made it PAST the sweet 16 just once in 19 seasons. Does anyone think that's a coincidence? I just don't understand why that's okay at IU. Ryno6284, Bobman1, 8bucks and 1 other 4 Quote
