  1. IMO this has been a done deal for weeks and was just waiting for a a judicial ruling.

  2. All this Daley talk just brings back memories of how heartbreaking that injury was after the OSU game. He was absolutely one of our best defensive players the second half of the Big Ten season. A one man wrecking ball who led all of college football in TFLs entering the playoffs. Daley had a decent chance of getting drafted if he had stayed healthy. In the greatest IU football season of all time, his injury was certainly a low point.

  3. Regarding new TRO granting blanket exemption for class of 2022 the following Hoosiers are eligible (to my understanding) to return for this season: Holden Staes - TE Jonathon Brady - WR Kellan Wyatt - DE Stephen Daley - DE

  4. Sam averaged almost 9 and 5 last year. Most importantly he was pretty consistent and appears to be a great guy who elevates the locker room. Would take him on this team over Hall every time.

  5. I'm a broken record on this but I still don't see Sisley as a 3. He couldn't beat out Jasai Miles for minutes at the 3 last year. I am a big fan of him as a 4 though.

  8. Agree. Maybe much longer. Our choice to not sign a backup big seemed bizarre, almost incompetent. Then when I found out Sam was coming to Peru... I think they were always saving this spot for Sam.

  10. I said earlier it looked like IU bringing Sam in the trip meant the plan all along was to add him, which puts all the angst we all had in the open roster spot in perspective. Assuming this does in fact mean he’s going to be back on the team, our outlook just got A LOT better

  16. Any thoughts on how Sam will fit next to Sherrell? I don't imagine we'll see much of Sam and Yig on the court together, but maybe? Most of last year was dreadful in the front court. We now seem to have solid quality and depth there. I am less convinced about the backcourt / shooting. We should benefit from a significantly more balanced roster at least.

  18. Don't like seeing one of the names below. Jon Chepkevich @JonChep An interesting nugget stemming from today’s class-wide preliminary injunction… Five 2026 NBA Draft 2nd round picks that meet the eligibility criteria remain unsigned: Richie Saunders,Tyler Nickel, Braden Smith, Dillon Mitchell, Lajae Jones

  20. Agreed. Sam really came on, and I was also a fan/sad he wasn’t eligible for another season. Would be a good locker room guy and great fit for the team.

  24. A point worth noting from the story below. "The court order Alexis is party to also enjoins the NCAA from enforcing sanctions under the Rule of Restitution against any school Alexis plays for in 2026-27. https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/former-iu-basketball-player-sam-alexis-receives-injunction-to-play-fifth-year/?fbclid=IwY2xjawTZ_b9leHRuA2FlbQIxMQBzcnRjBmFwcF9pZBAyMjIwMzkxNzg4MjAwODkyAAEel__5UUsIbmdlyxCd3pk7kw7XBJUpq4troJnGCdVbu8HNu7NZ1HGl7iloy8g_aem_IjkY4MFJFKyLxAmxGUPKzQ

  25. Interesting, thanks. Where are they moving those folks to?
    1 point
  26. They weren’t anything special with those guys, so I wouldn’t worry about any of them coming back, even if TKR could. It does create some interesting scenarios with the new 5:5 rule. Arguably both Smith and Loyer might’ve come back had they known ahead of time. I bet the Pacers wish they had finished that contract already.

  27. Folks displaced from North bleachers by students select Tuesday from 4 designated seating areas. If they don't like seating options available when their selection time arrives they can pass and enter the general selection process. My understanding is that begins on Thursday.

  29. Yeah I don't necessarily love him as a 3 based on what I saw last year but maybe he has developed some more of those skills this offseason? He won't play as a 5 and Sherrell will probably get close to 28mpg or more, leaving 12mpg as a 4 for Sisley. I think Sisley will play closer to 20mpg than 12mpg.

  30. SEC is too f’n dumb to play this game. All their crowing at media day about breaking away got people pissed off at an already volatile time. This bill should’ve been easy to kill behind the scenes. And you don’t threaten something publicly you aren’t willing to do. Hopefully they have a plan to amend it or kill it elsewhere or secretly know it is DOA at some juncture. Maybe they have an amendment someone has promised to throw on it. As drafted it is bad for the B1G and IU.

Not sure I’m completely with you here. I like Alexis as a piece for this particular team because he raises your ceiling a little but he raises your floor a lot. Are there more talented dudes, sure, but the players who’ve suddenly popped up, be it Smith or Saunders or Hall or Mitchell are good players but there’s a reason they’re available. If somebody’s gonna throw 7 million at Braden Smith he better give them Natty aspirations and if he does then they already had final 4 aspirations because he’s not option 1 who transforms a ceiling. He’s a really great force multiplier. But you win Natty’s with NBA guys and none of these guys are NBA guys or they’d be NBA guys. I’m not saying I wouldn’t take any of them. I’d love to have Mitchell. But he’s option 3 on a good team including probably this one and I don’t think that’s worth the jack that an overheated market is about to throw at him. These kids are like the top 70ish high schools of the preportal era who had nice offer lists but didn’t sign in the fall and by spring elite schools with open roster spots would offer them when they hadn’t offered them 6 months before. Smith and Dent are better than that, but these other guys aren’t. They are straight up being inflated because of a combination of name recognition and timing.

  32. My priority list would go: Staes Wyatt Daley Staes for need, Wyatt is likely the less injured of the two edges and that room is a load even without those two guys.

  33. This is along the lines of what I’ve been saying. Sam Alexis is a great piece, without question and a need but there are some legitimate program changers that will be out there and available. It’ll be just another chance to separate oneself on talent again. So although we improve, in the scheme of things if 25-30 teams improve more, we haven’t made up any ground despite the way it feels.

  35. Crowded minutes at the 3 if any of the freshman can play at all, which it looks like a couple can. Yigi/Sam split 20/20 but probably heavily dependent on matchups. Hard to believe Sherrell will play less than 28 in any meaningful game. I’d guess 2 things: 1) Harris or Sisley are getting squeezed on mins, and 2) we are not going to see much, if any, small ball. The latter continues to intrigue me.

  41. Props to Mr. Cast for being the first one I’ve seen report this for IU re Alexis. I just did the world’s quickest scan of the order. Looks like the court issued the injunction for the reasons I laid out in a couple recent posts. They actually went a step further and smacked the NCAA down for their rule that would punish schools for playing these kids. Game on. They’re eligible and in the portal. The NCAA continues to be the worlds stupidest governing body and worlds worst defendant. They should be disbanded and the B1G/SEC should assume control of major D1 sports for the sake of all involved.

  42. No doubt. Makes the Sokolov addition virtually meaningless if so. Burton, Lindsay, Mustaf, Harris, Moody, Sisley, Yigi, Sherrill, Alexis is a 9 man rotation. With Karvala and Manhertz knocking on the door. While directly above quoted wanting Hall, there is zero chance we add both as even a 9 man rotation will be unlikely come B1G playing time.

  43. The 5 for 5 rule was recently passed by the NCAA. The gist of it is that there will be no more redshirts (medical included) and all players can now play for 5 continuous years. The 5 year clock starts when they enroll or at the start of the academic year after they turn 19, whichever comes first. The HS class of 2022, which Sam Alexis was part of, was not included in the 5 for 5 rule. So, all the classes prior to them that had redshirts/covid years got 5 years (sometimes more) and the classes after them would all get 5 years. Now we're seeing players from that class filing suits to get another year of eligibility. I think Sam would need to join a suit to get another year of eligibility. Wilkerson would not be eligible because he played 1 year of JUCO, 3 at SHSU, and 1 at IU, so he already has played 5 years.

    2026 IUFB: CHAPTER 3

Schott is projected as extremely talented. He is most likely to be the guy. Barker seems like an afterthought that is big enough to be an effective blocker. Thiry keeps getting the 'not ready' tag from Cig, even after a year+ with the program. Gibbs? Even as a true freshman he's giving off those "we got something here" vibes.
