I think a lot of us have been relatively happy with Devries from a coaching standpoint, but less so with his year 1 roster building. So hiring a guy like this to help build the roster feels like outstanding news.11 points -

Maybe but just shows where the program DeVries took over is at currently. I don’t care who the coach of IU is going 3-7 in a 10 game span where those wins were 1 in 2OT, 2 pt win and 4 pt win is ridiculous. Hopefully he starts a new winning streak7 points -

Read the 24/7 article on his background and Bird’s comments about what expected from Carr. I would think/hope our staff would want his input on players from an evaluation standpoint, even though it is their final call. Carr has a ton of evaluation experience at the highest level.7 points -

Seems this move could also help in securing more money for the program. Part of Carr's connections would be to the top donors like Cuban, Simon Skjodt, Cook, Pfau. Appealing to the confidence of heading in the right direction of continuing to building the program.6 points -

Raby's description last week of the position - handle contracts for NIL and revenue sharing and organizational aspects of recruiting and roster management. Coaching staff makes the decisions on who to recruit and who to sign. Raby described it along the lines of an associate general manager in an NBA office. .5 points -

Way too early thoughts about the season. Assuming everyone stays healthy, which is next to a 0% chance that happens. But here it goes. The running game will be better than it was last year. The defense will once again be the unsung while everyone and their mother will focus on Hoover. Hoover will be in contention for the Heisman IUFB should be going into the O$U game with a 22 game win streak. CFP will be on the table, again. One of the OCs will take a HC job at the end of the season Another great season on the horizon in the 812 folks!5 points -

I don't know for certain, but I think this role has responsibilities that more closely resemble an NBA GM's. I'd assume he wants to be a GM some day and this job probably is an opportunity for him to say he had more ownership over the acquisition / roster building processes and worked directly with the coaching staff / AD, which would mirror the NBA front office dynamic between the staff and ownership. Imagine at some point he will touch on his motivations in an interview.4 points -

Even if we're not as good as '25... it's hard to top the most accomplished CFB team ever, we can still be plenty good enough to win the biggest prizes. There are four teams with about the same "best odds" to win it all: ND, OSU, Texas, and defending National Champion IU. Then there is a little gap to Oregon, and another gap to Georgia. Very exciting. I can't wait to see how this staff levels up Hoover and we've got some great games on the schedule too. Anything is possible -- no self-imposed limitations!3 points -

Nice Senior Day message from Jerni ...3 points -
I attended the game, and the game was without question the worst officiating job I have seen in quite some time. Shay was absolutely mugged time and time again. It was WWE out there. The "and one" fiasco was a complete mess. Pretty sure Jeremy Grey said "and one," the girl then missed her and one, Ducks get the rebound, and the refs suddenly stopped the play? Did they think it was a two shot foul? What did the TV announcers have to say about it? Was crazy at the game. IU women had a great game in my opinion. Missed several excellent opportunities to quit. Shay willed us to victory, and Beau made a HUGE 3 that really sealed the deal in my mind. And the out of bounds "defense" by Oregon was without question the worst handling of an inbounding play I have ever seen. I could have made that layup! :) Anyway, onward and upward! Would be difficult to lose our way out of the big10 tournament, and we should be eligible for the WNIT. Which I look forward to.3 points

Can't flush it quickly enough. Northwestern (11-16) (3-13) and if we can't kick their a$$...............! Wildcats average 74 ppg basically same as their opponents shooting 46% FG and only 32% on 3s. Not a good rebounding team at 32 rpg with a -5 margin. They average just 9 turnovers/game so they're not careless with the ball. Nick Martinelli is their go-to guy averaging 22 ppg on 50% FG and 44% on 3s. He's also their leading rebounder at 6 per game. Arrinten Page, one time IU target, averages 10 ppg on 55% FG and 5 rpg. Tre Singleton, a freshman from Jeffersonville, IN, I've seen mentioned as a possible portal entry. Plays 25 min/game averages 8 ppg on 47% FG but a measly 17% on 3s. Averages 5 rpg. Lose this one and the fat lady probably starts singing. Radio Live Stats2 points -

Like Armstrong Stadium (pictured), add banners on either side of the scoreboard, one for the national title, one for B1G titles, one for CFP appearances, and one for major bowls. Other banners can be fit in when necessary, And double side them so they're visible from outside the stadium. P.S. They can be much larger in size than the ones they use for soccer, I just needed an example of what I was thinking.2 points

We'll have more NFL draft picks from this team then last year's squad. Again, assuming everyone stays healthy, the running game will be better than last year's. Beebe, Richard and Martin will be better than last year's group and all three of them will be extremely productive due to the front five. The only question mark with our running game is the TE blocking. That's hands down the biggest wildcard of the entire roster. Hoover will progress just like all the other QBs have under the Cignetti system. He might be the most experienced of all QBs that have transferred into a Cignetti system. He'll be a pleasant addition. He'll get the job done and will win games in the crunch. He might also throw pics in the crunch. Hopefully Cig and staff will be able to eliminate that turnover ratio he has. The run game will bail him out, a lot. But make no mistake, the defense will be the reason we win the close games. Just like last year. Our defense should be really really good. There's no replacing #4 but hopefully the team game can fill in the holes of #4 and #5. Those two were the secret sauce to that defense last year. I'm not sure our passing D will be able to shut down offenses like last year but my hope is the front 7 will compensate for that. Exciting times for IUFB folks!2 points -

I think you’re going to find very few situations in college that don’t operate on that model. But if they’re bringing this guy in and not relying on his NIL scout heavily, I’m not sure what they’re doing. Good on CDD for being forward thinking and addressing a need. I like this move a lot.2 points -
Concur. I see in no way we are as good as we were this year offensively... but, ultimately, idk how we could be? We go from absurdly elite to still... VERY good. But, losing the Heisman winner, all conference TE, 2 all conference WRs, and your starting center... and two legit RBs, who are both going to be on NFL rosters comeback August... it's impossible to not feel those effects. I think Hoover, as Mendoza admitted to needing to understand early on... He doesn't have to win us the game, especially EARLY in a game... just make the plays that are there... if getting two first downs and punting, pinning the other team, and then smothering them later on is the best route in the 1Q (quick example) ... do that. We are elite on defense, elite on SPT... play the long game.2 points

How is Darian DeVries Doing So Far?
DJ Candypants and one other reacted to HoosierHoopster for a topic
The starting point problem here is the assumption DeVries’ recruiting after his late hire with 0 staff was strategic. IU had just once again missed the tournament, had 8 years of mediocre results, had 0 returning players, players recruited to Woodson’s failed front-court non-outside shooting teams, zero staff. That’s the opposite of hitting the ground running. If we make the tourney (I think we will), which is step 1 on this obvious complete rebuild, he’ll have a year of budding success grounded in high output 3-point shooting/ guard play and a staff in place and returning players to add pieces to in a system already in place. This offseason (and next) is very important but no reason to tie it conceptually to last year, as if DeVries would go chasing mid-tier players. He’ll chase the best with more time to get them. He knows we’re undersized for the B1G, he knows we need more athletic forwards. He landed Wilkerson and beat UK to get him, that’s the kind of guard he wants, who he’ll pursue and how many forwards remains to be seen but what he was able to do starting with nothing is not somehow the model2 points -

Wonder if there’s a change in our transfer portal strategy this year. Michigan is basically all transfers but they all came from power conferences except yaxel who was a first round pick. A lot of former 5 stars and high 4 stars that had more to show. We tried the mid American all star route which outside of Lamar idk how successful it was2 points -

Maybe he's seeing/learning the TD role he could be filling next year, with more size and athleticism. Can't wait to see the improvement from this kid, with a full year under his belt. I really believe he can be a major contributor next year. Hope he believes this too.2 points
