  1. Barry Odom opened his Bucket week press conference quite literally with “Happy Thanksgiving, for those who celebrate it.” You asked “Who the f doesn’t celebrate Thanksgiving?” Puredoo Coach Barry Odom is not sure, and he’s not taking any chances!! :)

I’m starting to get Xavier Booker vibes here. How much intensity can he be playing with when he’s putting up those numbers with his five star talent?

  3. Mitch Henderson used to practically give himself an aneurysm yelling at Lee for ball watching on D and generally not valuing the basketball/playing smart. He was a streaky shooter at best and not good around the rim. He got by a lot of the time because the competition had inferior athleticism but it was clear to me he'd struggle at a higher level of competition. Was never a strong kid. Get the sense Golden was kind of desperate for backcourt talent when he picked Lee up late in the cycle and basically played a lotto ticket. Of all high major players who have played at least 60% of their team's minutes, of which there are 268, Lee is 264 on Torvik's points above replacement player metric. Of that player pool, trimming down to those who have attempted at least 15 shots at the rim, Lee is 200th out of 204 at 40% (6/15). Terrible indeed. Basically the same exact kind of scouting miss as Mahaney at UConn last year. We'll see how UF can manage!

Mgbako returned from his foot injury two days ago vs. Mississippi Valley State. In his first game of the year he played 17 minutes, 19 points on 3/6 from 3, 6/6 FT, 2 rebounds, 1 assist. Games I'll probably watch today: UConn @ Illinois 12:30 on FOX St Mary's @ Vandy 1pm ESPN2 Oklahoma @ Marquette 2pm NBC Providence @ Florida 3pm FOX Texas A&M @ Florida State 5pm ESPN2 Wisconsin @ TCU 5:30pm FOX Miami FL @ GTown 7pm ESPN Ohio State @ Pitt 7pm ESPN2

  9. Curious what the obsession is with Makalusky? She’s a freshman feeling things out. You seem to focus so much on her. She’s like 6-8 “man” in the rotation. She’ll likely eventually be a key piece. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app

  10. Fisch is solid. He’s really close to having Washington humming, but has had 1 foot out the door since he landed in Seattle. If he brings Demond Williams with him and recruits at the same/similar level to Billy, Florida will be in really good shape really soon. He’s also an alum and knows what he’d be getting himself into there which is part of the battle. Was reading they’re looking at Sumrall too. That guy is an absolute ball coach. Whoever ends up with him will be sitting pretty.

  12. Jury is still out; Miss Valley St is 1-7 with their only win against the D3 team “Mississippi College for Women” (yes; for real- that’s a men’s team). A&M is 5-2 and has not beaten a top 250 team yet.

  13. That’s all well and good. But the defense gets a say in the matter too. For example, with Edey and a set of not all that athletic guards, Painter would just abandon the mid range to keep his guards contesting the 3’s while Edey tried to stay close to the paint. That’s why even though Woodson was no strategic genius his strengths played well vs Painter and despite having inferior teams Woodys IU squads more than held their own vs Purdue. A good example is a guy like Hood-Schafino who was happy to take all the midrange shots Purdue gave him and feasted both games. If you can consistently out execute your opponents scheme matters less anyways; otherwise sometimes you have to take what the defense gives you. When our execution breaks down we seem to settle for long 3’s which are also inefficient shots because the same math that applies to long 2s apply equally to long 3s.

  17. Xaivian Lee is borderline unplayable. Could see that coming from a mile away watching him at Princeton. Hope for his sake he got that degree before transferring. Princeton had a really good couple of years recently but almost everyone on those rosters are gone now. Caden Pierce, the 2023-2024 Ivy player of the year (who has a brother on the Colts IIRC) took this year off to get his Princeton degree and then hit the portal for next season. That's a guy who I could see translating to the P5 level. He's originally from Illinois. No idea if there'd be mutual interest but I think he'd fit the bill culture wise and be a hell of a rebounder / smart playmaker. Might be Duke bound.

  19. Marquette was down 1 with the ball and had a terrible past possession to get a fade away contested middle ranged shot that missed. That happened an hour ago but the site did its thing and was down during the final seconds

They'll grow to appreciate him. His career record is drastically thrown off by 1-11 first year at Arizona taking over for Sumlin who was 0-5 in 2020 and in 2019 4-8. They were decimated coming out of COVID and by year 3 they won 10 games. Went to Washington after DeBoer left and took most of the talent with him/portalled out in general. He is a builder. Record improves each year. UF could do a hell of a lot worse IMO.

Boogie Fland is solid-ish. As you said; Lee is terrible. Klavzar is much improved. UF doesn’t really have a fourth guard. UF has major guard problems and there’s no real options to solve the problems.

Agreed. And I don't want or mean to sound ungrateful for DDV. I'm super encouraged with what he's doing so far with a patchwork roster. Like it was said last night: We got ourselves a coach. It'll be interesting to see how the recruiting battles play out in the coming years as well.

  39. To each their own. For me there is no such thing as teams I have little interest in. I have no problem watching any team at anytime. If I waited until championship week to watch some of these smaller conferences and schools then chances are I missed out on a heck of a game on a Tuesday 5 games into the SoCon regular season. For me seeing these little guys play all year makes championship week more exciting since I will know which schools can make a run in their conference tourney. I’m not a regular fan though. Even in the 90’s I was watching small conference teams year round. Having an aunt and uncle who had one of those big satellites gave access to channels from around the US. Going over there and watching West coast games was the best. Boise States old floor brings those memories back. ESPN then had the full court offer that gave you access to all the games for a pay per view type price that I had my parents get and then I got it when I went to college. Now i have just about every streaming service you can think of just to be able to watch as many games as possible. My passion for college basketball hasn’t changed since those early days. I’m known as the college basketball guy and I’m more then ok with that.

  41. From the KSU message board. When was the last time we had a player that will consistently get this 'allegedly negative' but completely complimentary reaction from opposing fans... maybe WIll Sheehey? Connor Enright is the kind of kid that helps in one very key statistical category: won/lost record.
