  1. Things got extra stressful here. An infant under 1 died of Coronavirus in Illinois. My wife is now 39 weeks along and due next Sunday. We are holding out hope that the hospital doesn’t ban people being in the delivery room with her. I know as of now that Bloomington Hospital is allowing me in but I will not be allowed to leave the room for anything once I’m in there. I know we will need some prayers bringing a baby girl into this crazy world right now. Thank you and I’ll be praying for all of you too. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

  2. The first IU basketball team I followed was the 1964-65 IU team with the Van Arsdale twins and Jon McGlocklin which was just after my family moved to South Bend from Chicago. I was already a big college basketball fan having followed Loyola win the national championship in 1963. All three Hoosiers were future NBA players. It was also Branch McCracken's last season coaching. By then the two time national champion coach had lost his touch but those three were remarkable to watch.

  7. Ha! I can’t say I was old enough to remember, but my dad is really proud that it wasn’t “mama” or “dada” but Uwe because of the crowd chants. Now my first real IU memory was walking out onto the court with my dad when all the lights were off, back around ‘89...a janitor found us right outside one of the tunnels and said “are you guys supposed to be here?” My dad apologized and we started walking off when the guy stopped us and told me to go stand at center court directly on the “I.” My dad said to walk out there alone, and after a minute or two all of the lights came on in the Hall and I stood there looking around. I was probably only 5 or so, but it was an incredibly important moment I’ll never forget.

  8. A bit of an interesting one here, my first memory of Indiana basketball is watching the 1987 Championship game. I was 8 years old and we lived near Philadelphia and guess what? I rooting for Syracuse. I didn’t know anything about Indiana and as a kid in Big East Country I loved Derrick Coleman, Sherman Douglas and Stevie Thompson. Little did I know that literally less than two months after watching that game, my parents would announce to us that we were moving to Indianapolis. The rest is history. Fell in love with IU basketball almost immediately, following Calbert and that entire class, and then especially when as a ball boy for our high school team, I got to ball boy and sit under the hoop when our high school played Damon Bailey at Butler, played at The Wig Wam, and played at Lawrence North against Montross and those guys.

  11. Earliest really clear recollection is from the ‘73 Final Four game against UCLA. Steve Downing gave Bill Walton all he wanted. I was 11. Have a lot of earlier memories than that of the Pacers. Not sure why that is.

  12. I can’t remember a game detail but my school used to do a big sheet each time IU and Purdue played. And you signed who you thought would win. So in kindergarten I picked a side

  13. I am like rcs29. 87 tournament. I had uncles at Purdue at the time. My whole family is a Purdue family on my dads side. My dad, aunt, and two uncles went to Purdue. I remember being with my grandparents watch most every game that year in the tournament. I was hooked and my family was pissed at my grandparents. Edit: Anybody that knows me on here knows my grandparents had season tickets to IU games. Without them I don’t know how I would have ended up. Grandma was diehard PU fan cause of her kids, but grandpa taught us right. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

  15. Grew up next door to Notre Dame, but dad was a Hoosier fan thru and thru. A few days before Christmas 1970 dad took 6 yr old me to the ND-IU game. I remember him raving about Big Mac all game as he dominated. I was hooked. It was great going thru school as IU fan surrounded by ND fans, not so great during football season tho lol Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

  16. Family have been big IU fans forever. First memory is of our unofficial cousin Quinn and the 76 team but I really got hooked when Isaiah came. Was a student during the 87 championship and celebrated at the fountain after the game. Worked for the HT during the early 90s and got to enjoy the 92 team as well. 17. I remember the 81 title game and Reagan being shot concurrently. I was 15 and as a Chicago suburban brat had no idea I’d be going to IU three years later. First memory as an IU fan was Uwe Blab era as a freshman at IU. I was hooked at the first sight of Assembly Hall. That was Alford and Marty Simmons’s freshman year. Good lord Simmons was a great freshman, but he couldn’t handle Knight. Beat UNC/Jordan in the tourney and complete Showalter Fountain mega celebration followed. Ralph Samson and Jeff Lamb at UVA got us in the next round if I remember correctly.

Hurt his knee during the championship season. If you heard him interviewed, once his knee was messed up Knight was brutal to him, and drove him out of Bloomington.

My father in law had a mild stroke Thursday night Friday morning. Only presented with memory loss forgot anybody other than his wife and kids. Hes 89, Bleeding into his brain. They already said they aren’t going to operate not that I think he would want them to. Feel like this might be a send him home to enjoy the the time he has left situation. Mostly since family can’t visit him at the hospital and nobody wants to die alone. We will probably be driving up to Chicago soon I imagine. its a shame my daughter is probably too young to remember him.

  27. I have watched as much of that 2002 run this weekend as well. I have a few observations: -talent wise, I think that team matches what we have now -that team had no fear of anyone in that tournament. For some reason despite having 11 losses, you knew that tournament was special. -TJD could be similar to JJ if he gets his shot down. -that offense was extended out to the three point line. This opened up all sorts of possibilities in scoring options and it seemed like it didn’t have to stall. -AJ Moye and that’s all I have to say. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

  32. First legitimate memory was at Hoosier Hysteria when AJ Guyton was still. Came up and gave a high five to my brother and his friend. But we also went to a couple of Atheltes in Action games back when that was a thing. I born a Hoosier but 2002 did get me hooked more than anything. Was raised on Knight basketball though. Richard Mandeville!! 6’11” very athletic out of California and a national top of the top recruit. Never got the hang of it - best season at IU was 3.5 ppg, 2.1rpg. Bob Knight never coached him effectively; he was during the Collier, Reed, Miller, Patterson era of Knight at his absolute worst.

  35. Mike Roberts Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Edit: no joke, that is the catalyst for my name that I have had for like 15 years across several boards. He was THE worst basketball player I have ever seen step foot on the court for Indiana including walk-ons. The worst and just funny that he is back on the bench where he spent his entire 4 years as a player

  36. Just to take my mind and hopefully others off what going on around the world, I did a fun article about realignment. What kind of moves would you like to be seen made or new conferences made? This is just for fun and nothing serious. What benefits do you think it would have on college basketball? https://xavierharkness3.wixsite.com/topictalk/post/off-the-top-conference-realignment Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

  39. What is funny to think is that in your proposed American 11 conference, I think Indiana would have been the topped ranked team this past year. Syracuse was down last year. Notre Dame probably would have been a tournament team in this scenario. FWIW, I'm not a big fan of conferences that are spread out wide geographically. If I were the Big Ten commisioner and wanted to do a fun little thing and wanted to reorganize the conference but not change teams, I would split the conference into two divisions....with a catch: run it like the premier league. seven teams in an 'upper' half, based on what teams finished in the upper half in 2019-20, and the teams in the bottom seven start in the lower half. Everybody plays each time their 'half' of the division once (home and home), and they play the teams in the other half one time each -- three home games, three away, one neutral. The opening games for the season are the neutral court games to provide a little excitement instead of playing a cupcake to start the year. And find interesting venues to play those games. And I eliminate the Big Ten/ACC challenge. At the end of the season, the top two teams in the lower half move up while the bottom two teams in the top half move down.

  46. Really good Q and A with Jordan from Inside The Hall https://www.insidethehall.com/2020/03/28/q-a-class-of-2020-st-pauls-school-forward-and-iu-signee-jordan-geronimo/?fbclid=IwAR3AFifar6AUFGXSEgTO1Y-wVEJPGMr2IVD8PIwyWmtp8y3aRDJIyzVL2QM Couple of things of special note to me: 1. Plans to be in Bloomington on June 8, coronavirus permitting. 2. Geronimo averaged 18 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks per game this past season 3 ... Me, as a player, I wanted to get my teammates going. I’m a team-first kind of guy. Throughout the season, I realized I needed to be more aggressive and more assertive with the ball in my hands. Before I realized that, it was kind of too late. [I think I made that observation somewhere in his thread that he was clearly their best player and needed to take charge]

Charlie Miller. Just never got better. When you start at IU as a freshman there are certain expectations. At least there were then. During his time was when I realized it may be a while before I see 30 wins again. Didn’t think it would be like this. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

  49. Andrae Patterson. He had so much talent but in so many games played like he just didn't care. I swear he'd pick up fouls intentionally just so Knight had to take him out of games.

  50. Hoosiers win it. Green hit some big shots in the second half and IU missed 3 front ends of 1 and 1 down the stretch. Lol. I’m guessing they were not expecting a foul out because when Brunk fouled out a guy named Kegler came in. Entertaining to check out. Awesome these guys put the time in to make this Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners
