  1. As an educator, this was the reason I wanted Romeo at IU. Look at this picture... in the most important moment of his 18 year old life, he takes time out of it to recognize a young fan (with his custom made jersey on it) to smile and give him a high five and a hand shake. It wasn't like the kid was on stage either... Romeo walked 10ft or so to get to the kid. Awesome. His character is his best attribute. Mr. Langford, enjoy your time in Bloomington.. you already have a huge fan in me.

  3. I'm starting to notice that the number of IU-centric threads, and the IU hatred, irrational nonsense, and rationalization are really starting to ramp up on other boards. Gotta think that's a very, very good sign.

  5. So my good friend is a bank teller at the bank Archie goes to. Archie walked in today and my friend asked him, "did your life get easier or harder yesterday?" Archie: "Both" with a laugh. Plus, enjoying a fine meal at a steakhouse while hundreds of thousands of hoosiers found out Romeo's decision was some 1920's mafia $h1t. This guy is great. Proud of what he's accomplished already!

  6. I'm not too surprised that Trayce didn't notify the OSU media guys that he may decide soon. This is all a show, and these kids are learning how to play it. That doesn't mean he won't adjust his timeline from what was said a few weeks ago. It looks like ITH posted the video where Trayce made all of these comments, but interestingly there's no quote about waiting until July. In the OSU article posted, that part isn't in quotes, either, and so I'm not sure that's something he just said, or if they're drawing from previous interviews. Also, there was one question that I couldn't hear, but his answer made it sound like it had to do with a timeline. It seems like there's a little hesitation when he's answering about this stuff, like maybe he's not being entirely truthful about "just enjoying the process for now." You can tell that "enjoying the process" is just a phrase he's practiced to answer these questions. Also, when originally asked about the programs showing interest, he rattled off 6-7 programs and didn't even mention OSU, until later in the interview when the OSU guy (and presumably the same guy that wrote that article) reminded him, and then Trayce gave some input on Holtmann. Here's the video. Let's be clear, I'm not calling Trayce a liar or anything. I'm almost always impressed with these kids' abilities to handle media questions politely, while understanding how not to say anything that will get them in trouble. Here's a video from EYBL last weekend. Like I said in my earlier comments, Trayce knows his role and sticks to it. It's almost refreshing to have a kid not dream about being the next stretch-4/Durant/Lebron. He plays inside, and does it very well, and very reliably. His back-to-the-basket moves are already polished and he uses them well. He covers ground fast to get to the hoop, and draws some fouls because of it.

  7. Yes I will say it sounds like what some are saying to coaches behind closed doors is a lot different than what they're saying to reporters. Now it was like 3 weeks ago when I first got my info. So maybe something has changed since then. I did ask again on Monday and got the soon answer. So maybe soon is the fall. Or maybe he is telling them one thing and doing something different.

  9. Assuming Morgan comes back, the goal is to surround Morgan, Langford, Smith, Green, etc. with pieces that fit, not necessarily just to fill the last scholly with the most talented guy. I have no idea, I've never seen this kid play, but IMO a 6'10" guy that shoots over 40% from deep is a great piece to help spread the floor offensively for the aforementioned guys, and if he can cover defensive rotations and defend the block a bit, then Fitzner seems like he could be a really great fit. This could be a really underrated signing if it happens. At this point it's all about fit and role.

I'm gonna share a little advice from Aaron Rodgers for all those getting all huffy about what's being said on other fan boards or what people are writing about Romeo and/or IU or his dad: R-E-L-A-X. (And as a Bears fan for 40-plus years, it pains me to quote Aaron Rodgers). Go back and read what was said here about Darius Garland after he picked Vanderbilt. Or read all the mud slinging at Bryce Drew and Bill Self. It's all gonna be OK. Don't worry about what they're writing on other fan boards -- why even go there anyway?. What did you expect them to write? Just enjoy the moment. Let it go. We just got the No. 5 player overall in the country -- and No. 1 at his position. And just a few months ago, we weren't even on his radar. Kudos to Archie and his staff for a remarkable effort. I'm pretty damn excited about next season.

  15. IU basketball put out this tweet just a while ago. Hard to tell from a photo, but DeRon still looks in relatively decent shape to me -- at least it doesn't look as if he's put on a bunch of weight since his injury. I'm sure he's got a long, long way to go before he's healed and in basketball shape, but still ...

  23. Yet another sportswriter weighing in: https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/indiana-lands-romeo-langford-as-archie-miller-keeps-another-hoosier-state-hero-at-home/ In the previous five classes -- i.e., 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 -- there were 23 players from the state of Indiana who were either four-star or five-star prospects, according to 247 Sports. Trey Lyles was one. Caleb Swanigan was another. Jaren Jackson was another. And there were 20 more. But only one -- James Blackmon in the Class of 2014 -- signed with Indiana. Only one. Out of 23. Which is difficult to comprehend. But there are four players from the state of Indiana in the Class of 2018 whom 247 Sports lists as either four-star or five-star prospects -- none bigger than Langford. And Indiana secured commitments from three of the four, including Langford, much to the delight of those who wear candy-striped pants proudly and fill Assembly Hall annually.

  27. He’s is so right about that. Getting players for some coaches is the easy part, then winning with them is the more difficult part. I’m realistic with my expectations though. I just want to be a top 25-30 team in off years and top 10 team in good years. Give me a chance to win games each March. Top 3-4 in B1G every year. If this happens I’ll be content. I think Archie and staff are aiming higher than my expectations and I love that. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

  30. I think one of the most impressive things about Archie's first class is that he was able to fill so many scholarships while still maintaining class balance. Assuming we land the grad big, that's 7 spots he's filled in less than a year. 1 four star reclass, 4 other four stars, a McDonalds All American, and a grad transfer. Give Crean 7 open scholarships and he'd be all over the place. We'd end up with at least 1 or 2 "projects". This is a sign of good things to come.

Nope! The common themes are many and scattered, such as: Archie can't coach Sean Miller is dirty Tim Langford decided for Romeo The B1G stinks IU is a has-been, and therefore never will be again and so many others it's just plain ol silly.
