Makes those comments from HH that much more exciting Very good article. I hope RMK did more than a pit stop recruiting Montross. IMHO, if IU had him instead of UNC, with Cheaney’s later teams, IU would have had UNC’s or Duke’s NCAA championship during that time.Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app ALASKA HOOSIER, Iugradman, cthomas and 1 other 4 Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted October 24, 2017 Posted October 24, 2017 Excellent article. Bruce Brown/Cujo recruitment explains a lot. Shotgun offers, blanket promises. Recruiting is super challenging and I think Crean worked his best at it. His results were actually pretty good in the grand scheme. Just not good enough. And had the officials not decided to foul out just about everybody wearing crimson in that 1992 national semifinal, we may have had Duke's as well. Sent from my LGL41C using BtownBanners mobile app I remember very late in that game, a Duke player (Grant Hill, I think) was going to the basket and Damon went to challenge him. Damon is a very smart player, and went in at the right angle so as to not get the Dookie with the body. And also because Damon is a very smart player, I think he realized at the last second that he had four fouls and thought better of going for the block -- so he very obviously pulled his arm back and made no contact. The zebra didn't see it that way. He anticipated the contact, rather than seeing it -- because there was none. Right after the foul was called, I screamed at my TV: "THAT'S NOT A F---ING FOUL, YOU IDIOT! HE PULLED OFF!" ... But unfortunately, Damon was gone. Josh, GloryDays, CR3AMnCR1MS0N and 4 others 7 Quote

Popular Post Class of '66 Old Fart Posted November 17, 2017 Popular Post Posted November 17, 2017 From the radio show last night, Archie's comments on our 4 '18 recruits. You can read the whole summary of the program at: http://www.insidethehall.com/2017/11/17/news-and-notes-from-archie-millers-radio-show-2/ – Jerome Hunter: “About 6-foot-7 plus, very, very wide shoulders, long arms. About 200 pounds right now. Jerome’s going to be the guy that, in time, will be a guy you’ll have to deal with on the perimeter with great length and size. He’s got great skill level, can really shoot the ball, handles the ball, and I think he’s going to be, our hope is in time he’ll be a really dynamic, big guard.” – Damezi Anderson: “He’s going to have a great senior year. Can really score. One of those guys that make putting the ball in the basket look really effortless. A good 6-foot-6, 210 pounds. So we’re getting bigger on the perimeter, which is something I really wanted our team to be about as we get going.” – Rob Phinisee: “A floor general, a true point guard. Has great tempo. Doesn’t look like he’s going very fast but can turn it on when he needs to. Sets his teammates up, really can push the ball when he wants to. So he’s got great feel and timing. He’s also a guy we’re going to count on in terms of setting the tone with our defense. He’s about 6-foot-1 right now, 175 pounds. I think he’ll play in college at about 6-foot-1, 190. He’s a great athlete, understated athlete. I think he’s going to be strong. The thing with watching him is, especially this fall, he’s really shooting the ball a lot better than I anticipated. When you watch him in AAU games and whatnot, you don’t really get the chance to watch him workout. So we’re excited about Rob, he’s a great kid.” – Jake Forrester: “A power forward, skilled forward. He’s about 6-foot-9, about 215 pounds. Going to be about 230 by the time he gets here. Hard playing, tough, athletic, one of those guys our fans will fall in love with who he is as a person and also as a player. Has a skill level where he can step away from the basket and shoot it, has the ability to face up a little bit. But the greatest gift early in his career will be his motor. His energy level, his toughness, rebounding, blocking shots, guarding multiple positions and another great kid.” Also talked about Robert Johnson and he's clearly not about to give up on RoJo despite his struggles through 3 games: On Robert Johnson, “I’m really proud of Rob right now, I know a lot of people are probably wondering where his shot is, this and that, how he’s scoring. Rob has really bought in to what we’re trying to do defensively. He’s played three straight games for us about as hard as a guy consistently through about 30 minutes. There have been very few possessions where you look and say Rob isn’t giving max effort. As he continues to do that, and he’s sold out and kind of bought in there, the other end of the floor will happen to him as we get better collectively.” kottke, IUsafety, ALASKA HOOSIER and 6 others 9 Quote

HoosierDYT Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 Really like that quote on Rojo. I like seeing coaches who trust in their players and I think recruits respect that as well Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners CR3AMnCR1MS0N, MIUGA, ALASKA HOOSIER and 2 others 5 Quote
pumpfake Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 I'm wondering if/how pre-emptive Archie is going to be toward blue chip recruits. As it appears that the NBA restriction on drafting H.S. players may be lifted in the not so distant future, I can see an added emphasis on low 5 stars and high 4 stars instead of potentially wasting time on top 10 players. I guess one would have to gauge players on an individual basis, but it seems every H.S. player that has a chance ultimately wants to go pro (i.e. rarely will a super recruit opt to go to college if he knows he can jump to the NBA). mamasa Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 Kinda OT, but my Facebook memories today showed that I posted November 22, 2010:After today's win over Evansville, Tom Crean had two players, 6'6" Collin Hartman (Cathedral HS) and 6'5" Devin Davis (Warren Central HS), commit to Indiana.
