IU Basketball: Who is leaving? Who is staying?

I'm hard pressed to find a game he lost for Indiana this year. I can find a good bunch of games where he was the catalyst for a big run. Tell me about his turnovers and defense all you want, I'm looking at what he added to the W column.

He has lost us countless games. For example, against a team like North Carolina he had (if I remember correctly) 0 points at the end of the first half. Similarly, his defense was very average in that game. He was about as useful as Zeisloft in that first half, and also committed turnovers.

Just curious if you watched the second half at all? Because Troy lit up UNC for 19 points in the second half, and got us back within 10 a few times. He was the only part of our offense that seemed to be working. Troy Williams was absolutely not the reason we lost to UNC.

I agree he wasn't the reason we lost. He did give up an open three to Paige when he left his man hunting for an impossible steal.

Troy scored a bunch of points against a Final Four team in the 2nd half when Carolina maintained a comfortable lead. There is scoring when it matters to propel your team to a win and scoring in a blowout or garbage time. Troy got his but it did nothing to help IU win. He did have a game changing second half against Notre Dame that was a turning point for the team though.

He nearly single handedly kept UNC's lead under 20 for the first 10 mins of the second half. Had anyone else on the team had some shots fall, we'd be talking about how Troy's second half performance propelled us into the Elite Eight over the national favorite.

I think you both overstate your case. Troy is very valuable much of the time. He also has many moments of being turnover prone and creating impossible shots. But overall a very nice asset offensively.

I'm agreeing his points were important but it's when players get their points. Are you scoring in the opening minutes to push your team to a hit start, are you scoring while up or down big without pressure, or are you scoring in crunch time with the game on the line. Troy got most of his points while IU was down double figures. He also had his normal turnovers and lack of concentration on defense that directly lead to UNC points.

Troy is who he is, a talented player who is wildly inconsistent. I believe for the majority of the time in his junior year he was more likely to start runs for the other team than to put his team on his back and will them to wins.

Troy is an enigma, a conundrum, a paradox, a quandary, a mystery, etc. ad nauseum.  He is who he is and a senior Troy won't be any different than a freshman, sophomore or junior Troy.  He's just like the stock market with his highs and his lows.  There just doesn't seem to be a Mr. Average with Troy.   If he stays, just expect more of the same next season.

If Troy could improve defensively as much as Yogi did then his offensive inconsistencies would not matter. He has great length and athleticism but is a poor defender.

Change that defensive weakness to a strength and he could be so valuable.

The game at MSU is one that jumps out. I'm not going to say he single handily lost us that game. But out of everyone, he was unbelievably abysmal from start to finish in that game

Has anyone figured out the identity of @janitorinthegym? Seems to be the most plugged in insider that I've seen. Been correct time and time again. Talked to me about Dwayne Wade and the Heat coming in for practice way in advance. Been right about so much stuff. Really wish he/she still posted here.

In my humble opinion, the difference between losing Troy and losing TB is that we have multiple skilled, viable options at the 3 and 4. We don't have that depth at the 5 spot. Not saying I won't miss Troy and his highlight reel dunks. But I also don't know that DD/OG/JM/CH can't make up for that drop off and then some.

I was thinking the same thing, especially considering half of those guys couldn't complete a dunk period. Also surprised Nick wasn't in the 3 point contest.
