Wasn't a big fan of Mack's "zip it up" culture a couple years back.

Xavier has been one of the most consistent Mid Major schools in the country. And with very good coaches. Like Mack but also Sean Miller and Thad Matta. Since 2000 Xavier has only missed the tourney 3 times. They've been to 6 Sweet 16's and 2 Elite 8's. This year they have a good chance of going to the schools forest ever Final 4.

Anyone ever consider Gregg Marshall at Witchita State? Obviously not a young coach to fit in this thread but, I've been looking his way for 2 years. Haven't heard him mentioned by anyone else.

Personally I don't want him. And no one knows what WSU will be like after this year. They lose Van Vleet and Baker. Their window could be over. I'd rather go for a younger coach that can hit v the ground running on the recruiting trail.

Marshall, he,seems happy at the mid major level. He has turned down top 5 conference schools. I like Jacobsen at Northern Iowa.

I wouldn't consider him a homerun hire but he's won consistently everywhere he's been.

He's older than Crean though and his tourney success isn't much different.

Love Gregg Marshall and he has said he will only go to a major conference of its a school where he can compete. He just got a huge raise and is making $3 million plus at WSU. IU could have had him last year when he was flirting with leaving WSU bhe has won everywhere he has been. Some say he runs a gimmick defense that won't work in a major conference. He is viewed as being a bit abrasive and I don't know of IU administration would want that after dealing with Knight for decades.

Marshall has averaged a championship (conference or conference tournament) a year for 16 years. The guy can coach.

Bryce has a huge I.Q. for basketball.  HIs dad Homer was an excellent coach from and X and O standpoint.  For a few years, they were giant killers in the NCAA.

 

IMO, comparatively, Drew is a much better coach than Alford.

 

I am good with Stevens or Drew.  Drew I think would be much more obtainable than Stevens at this point.

As for Bryce Drew he is a former Indiana Mr Basketball, played professionally in the NBA and Europe. That will hold some clout walking into living rooms around the state. 2017 is a key year on state as well. Having a coach who is also a former Indiana high school star walk in and say I can show you how to get to the next level and we can win championships along the way is a huge deal in my opinion. Drew has lived what these kids are dreaming about.

I like Bryce Drew as a coach, but based on his current team (e.g. 6 guys from Illinois and 5 from abroad, versus 2 from Indiana with one red-shirted and the other averaging 2.6 points per game as a Junior) I'm not sure he is overly focused on in-state recruiting.

Has anyone been seriously watching Valpo? Cause those adjusted defensive statistics are exactly what we've been wanting. Like I really want to watch them now just to see what they're doing so well.

Arguably, in Valpo, Illinois and Indiana are both in-state.

I have watched them several times. It's hard to gauge how those numbers would stack up playing better competition. 13 of there 19 wins are against teams with a +150 rpi.

I've known the Drew family for over 40 years. I would take Bryce in a heartbeat. In addition to being darn fine basketball coaches, he and his dad are two of the most genuine people I know. I have no idea what happened with Scott.

Dane, imo, is just not ready. I would put Michael Lewis in the same category.
