Yup! Not to derail the thread about Anderson, but what I love about this class and what Archie is doing is that while Garland would have been a great get, and Langford will obviously be great get if IU lands him and those guys would certainly accelerate things, between Smith and Durham and the guys currently in the '18 class, that is a really, really nice foundation to build on. 

Don't get me wrong, Archie is going to have to land the big fish consistently, and maybe it starts with Langford or maybe the '19 class, but the foundation is already in place for a really strong team in a year or two.

Yeah it's hard not to get excited about Damezi!!!  He's a natural scorer.  He can definitely play full speed, and has excellent length.  He gets a rep as an outside shooter, but I think that's more a function of his ability to get open and knock it down than it is what he's able to do.  When you watch him, he's got great instincts and timing to sneak off to an open, unguarded shot and receive the pass.  Very heady player.  And another excellent kid with very good demeanor.  I'm thrilled he's a Hoosier.

Damezi was a great get. Not just because in-state but also with him being from South Bend. Enemy territory in the state. Same with Phinisee. And really the same with Romeo. Archie is casting the in-state net all across the state. Love that approach

Found this on NDInsider.   Whatever the reasons, it sounds to me like ND simply didn't have any interest in Damezi or it was clear early on that Damezi had zero interest in ND.

I read the SBT article on Damezi Anderson, well written. Is he even remotely considered by Brey & staff? I would think a local kid could help put bodies in seats.

Isn't this program way, way, way beyond having to recruit local guys to get people to games? The last three years isn't enough?

Mike Brey attended one of Anderson's games last winter, but other schools (notably Purdue) were further down the recruiting road with him.

Damezi would have had a tough time getting accepted into ND. If he played WR, maybe. Just way things are there.

Don't get me wrong, he's not a bad student or anything like that, but the sovereign fiefdom that is Notre Dame, IN operates differently than other places.

Peegs saying that Damezi was at the game last night. Very impressive to make that drive from South Bend on a (very late) school night. Kid definitely seems enthusiastic about being a Hoosier.

Haven't seen any specifics on the game, but tonight Damezi broke the SB Riley career scoring mark of 1,507.
