Do you think Boyd or Cluff cost that much? I doubt either was more than Reed Bailey.

Lendeborg sure, but replace him with some other decent wing and that's still a tourney team

Boyd was ranked 72 in 24/7s portal ratings compared to Baileys 63. Doubtful he cost more than Bailey.

UW is really down the list on NIL spend. Do much so that they just passed a bill to give an extra $10 mil to the Athletic Dept. In basketball they probably spend half what we do.

Dorn, Miles, Harris, Drake, the two foreign freshman, and Sisley are who I would bring back to have some continuity, but I would be recruiting over them… so an entirely new starting 5. Ideally, 2 of the 5 are legit NBA prospects.

I hope we retain no more than 3 of those 7 guys as we have incoming freshman and need to get our 6 best guys through the portal. We need a massive infusion of talent.

Massive is right. Out of those 7, I say keep Sisley (if you can), Dorn and Miles. Let the rest go.

...you have to admit,.... Pre - NIL,........

all players had was what they brought to a team, the desire to play for "that coach" or "that school" and the hopes that a great season/seasons will get you noticed and closer to the NBA.

Current - NIL,.......It's a double edge sword! Money changes everything no matter what you say or think. Yes it can bring in unlikely players who normally wouldn't come and help change the direction of that university. IMO, It also might cloud/soften certain players desire and will to play to their highest potential.  I say this, because of quite possibly, the large amount of money these players are paid sometimes creates a false security as if they have "finally made it". All this being said, I can see some players thinking this way, especially at the end of their college playing career.

Is money/NIL the issue??

All I know is that there are a ton of better   teams than IU and their guys are getting paid.

We as fans are bound to be surprised on who stays/who goes. Doubt we're all going to be completely pleased. But I've said before it's probably likely we see an infusion of 6-7 new players. Maybe as many as 9 new faces besides the 3 freshmen. Hoping Carr and Coach can pull it off in year 2. Who knows if even this staff remains totally intact.

lol....Obviously there are better teams getting paid, but yes,......money/NIL is part of the issue with certain players, not the sole issue.

The only player I would be disappointed to see leave is Sisley. I honestly hope most everyone is gone and we do have 8-9 new faces.

This is where doubt of all being completely pleased could factor into our reactions to the changes.

If what you’re hinting at is true… ugh.

Seriously think it was just scouting. Since I was just going up and down those portal rankings looking for Boyd, you could see all the other players. Lots of names we would recognize surrounding our guys.

Absent any other info, I think those rankings can serve as a rough proxy for cost. Money spent on Tucker, Bailey, and Conerway was seriously mis-allocated .

There really isn't a single player I'd be torn up to lose. Not saying I want to kick them all to the curb, but none would be a terrible loss.

I'm higher on Miles than most - I think he's good on defense and rebounds hard. Needs to shoot a ton of shots every day this offseason. Didn't get a chance to get into much of a rhythm this year. Has a lot of good physical tools.

Dorn can't be counted on for much more than a catch and shoot guy IMO which there's definitely a role for that.

Sisley nice hustle guy. Otherwise not fascinated by him at all. Harris was injured all year, maybe (?) he could be decent depth. Andrej apparently came cheap and he's a 7 footer, I have no issue retaining that depth. Ristic couldn't crack the rotation with this team, he's not going to help next year. Don't think Drake will be up to the task needed from an upper class bench guard next year.

Yep. Based on numbers being tossed around:

We paid Devries like an all-conference player, and got a solid starter. We paid Bailey like a solid starter, and got a mediocre backup.

Scouting misses will happen, can't get too mad about it. The thing that still frustrates me - if you know Tucker is going to play 90% of the minutes at the 4, it's pretty obvious you need to get a glass eating rim protector as a 5 to play with him. Even in an alternate world where Bailey translates better to the Big Ten, he's just not that style of player. That was such a self-inflicted wound.

Justin Kirby will probably transfer from Miami(OH).

Treyson Anderson from North Dakota State(my guess is Nebraska robs him).

Pharrel Payne will likely have another year left.

Maybe Washington breaks apart. Desmond Claude, Zoom Diallo and Hannes Steinbach could be available.

Kwame Evans anybody? Jackson Shelstad?

How would Purdue fans feel if we grabbed Will Berg?

Camren Hunter from Central Arkansas could have another year left.

Need a few more 7 footers. Need guards that are aggressive offensively and can actually get downhill and attack defenses.

I joked about Jackson Sheltad some weeks ago. I’d be happy with that. lol. But he’s from out west, near Oregon I believe.  I’m guessing he stays out west.

As crazy as it sounds, I’d pass on Kwame Evans.

I believe Steinbach goes pro, if not pay him a boatload.

I have heard Bidunga might be available, but I don’t think we have the finances to make that happen.

We are gonna have to overspend.  Hopefully this is understood.  Not proving proof of concept is a real detriment to our mojo going forward.

Continuity is great, but man I feel no juice about any of the potential returners coming back. Sucks. Keep Trent, he loves Indiana

I'm hoping Sisley develops and can play solid minutes and that all the recruits are good enough to crack the rotation and contribute off the bench next year.  We need to build a solid young nucleus.

I know everyone hates Woody here, and he mostly deserves it. But he had a team that earned a 4 seed in tourney.

In over 30 years…THIRTY…we’ve had exactly 3 teams that were a 4 seed or higher: the two Zeller teams and the Jeffries team.

Devries has a lot of work to do to put out a team to earn a top 4 seed. But I mostly agree with you: if he strings together two years of a 10 seed or better most fans will feel good about him. I think…

i believe the Jeffries team was a 5 seed.

Lots of chatter that Sisley will transfer.

We're going to have to cut bait with these players to form a new starting 5 (which I agree) as we have a 3 freshman class coming in. The freshman from all accounts are high major prospects, the players on our current team, frankly, are not.

I think we need to go young and rebuild, not reload.  Lock down the 3 freshman coming in.  Then find a few P5 sophs who don't think their current location is working out.  Add a couple of high character leaders as Jrs/Srs and start establishing something.  If we make the tornuney, great.  If not, lets at least see an arrow pointing up.
