Shooter Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 Man, some of you guys are babies. Or maybe just spoiled by Cignetti. Coming into this year I thought making the tourney would be a decent first season. That's still on the table. Season's not over because we played like crap on the road. Five Prime Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 This will be the theme for the year - we will struggle when the 3s arent falling. More athletic teams will make us look like ****. I'd guess we finish around 5-7 in the Big 10 still and make the tournament. Not bad, but this roster isn't good enough to compete consistently with top 20 teams. pumpfake 1 Quote

That’ll still be a decent season. If we make it. The problem I have is the issues are structural. It isn’t a case of cold shooting for a star player, injuries or poor officiating. We see the same things exposed time and again. It doesn’t mean they can’t be fixed* but they’re not. Some things take time to sort out as a coach. Other things like the horrible early 28 foot 3’s should take one conversation or a benching. We’re not really seeing much progress on any of it. I can’t say we weren’t competitive in our losses, but in all 3 games once the opposing team figured out we can’t handle extended defensive pressure we were pretty much dead in the water. The problem with guys like Archie/Woody wasn’t that they had flaws, but instead that they were unable to address or fix them in any meaningful way. So watching this team get exposed in the exact same way game to game has some déjà vu vibes to it. I’m hopeful Devries can figure it out. They have 3 weeks to come up with something besides “hope the other team can’t defend the 3pt line and we go nuclear from 3 at home.” *roster construction is obviously set for the season and we can’t do anything Pagoda, HoosierDevils and MikeRoberts 3 Quote

J34 Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 I'm not a big proponent of zone defense. But when we get in foul trouble, and they are constantly getting by our defenders and dominating us on points in the paint, why not throw some different looks at them. This team is not strong or athletic enough to play straight up M to M all the time. We're not a good rebounding team anyway, what's to lose. BannerVille, str8baller, Ryno6284 and 1 other 4 Quote

Game is still tight, on the road, and you shoot a 35 footer, a turn around from the free throw line…WTF. Just awful. It's the old "chuck and duck" offense. Pretty much sux. MikeRoberts 1 Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 (edited) I’d like to be inside that locker room. The coaches room particularly. The realization of we are not as good as we thought we’d be must be setting in. Due to strong roster restriction the staff has one hand tied behind its back(they put it there themselves) as we aren’t big or athletic enough to do things to compete with good teams. I think we are at the point of praying the 3s drop. Staff needs to find a way to get our 3 shooters as many open looks as possible throughout the game. Cut Enrights minutes way down. Teach Conerway to play time/score . (Neither PG option gives us what we need) Drake I don’t think does either. At the 5? Who knows. Neither guy gives us what a winning team needs. Gotta score at a high efficiency clip to offset the defensive liabilities. Edited December 14, 2025 by WayneFleekHoosier BGleas and coonhounds 2 Quote
Golfman25 Posted December 14, 2025 Posted December 14, 2025 Everybody knew this was a "mid-major" roster. The only thing that would make it work in the BIG10 is if DD coached the chit out of it. Doesn't look like that is happening. Kind of seen the same problems in each loss, with no adjustments. DD better get his chit together and quick. Get creative and come up with some answers. Unfortunately, IU basketball has been a dumpster fire for a while. NIL and the portal is great, but we aren't getting the top guys regardless of money spent until we start showing some success. Top NIL guys want to go to a team that is in the tournament and they are the piece that will put the team in the final 4. They don't want to be the guy who gets them to the tournament. Well said, which emphasizes the point about the strategy of starting year 1 of a tenure off with an undermanned, risky roster was a poorly constructed plan. Pay more early in order to pay less later.
