Teri Moren on #iubb hiring Darian DeVries: "I'm excited for what's next for men's basketball. Indiana is a special place, and it takes somebody special to be the leader over there. ... I'm really looking forward to not only meeting him, but watching him work."

After her press conference ended just now, I heard Moren say DeVries sent her a nice text.   [OF - Probably one more than she ever got from Woody]

First off, the Locked On folks are not plugged in insiders. They're independent media guys (usually student reporters) who just report what they hear.

Secondly, WVU fans are bitter over this and have been stoking rumors of DeVries conspiring to screw their school this season on his way out.

I expect more than one transfer from the WVU roster to join him in Bloomington. Wouldn't be surprised if he brings a couple of his HS recruits over as well. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

This guy was pretty level headed and balanced about the whole ordeal outside of this. Also I am well aware of how unreliable Locked On is which is why I said "if". Not saying it's true or false but this guy did seem a bit more credible than say IU's Locked On guy..... which isn't saying a lot.

Fair enough, but again most Locked On guys are student reporters. They aren't insiders who've been doing this for years and have a whole bunch of connections and sources. It's plausible that it's true. But being a podcaster doesn't automatically make him credible.

The loyalty they expect from coaches is pretty wild. Did those kids give their old HCs a heads up they were transferring before they transferred? 

It's wild to me. 

This is DeVries career.

I'm pretty sure he was. Lots of media people reported it and President Whitten looked out at him and Terri during her part of the press conference

Some excerpts from the Herald Times , may be behind a paywall so just posting a bit  -- goes more into the in depth work by Dolson to bring in DeVries/DRock which, unlike a certain thread below that continues the ridiculous notion of Brad S, reflects the extensive work / search that was kept extremely close to the vest and not leaked:

"... Dolson managed to keep that process buttoned up so tight nearly no credible information leaked out. 

With the help of a search firm (TurnkeyZRG) — and in the interests of respecting both his and other programs’ ongoing seasons — Dolson kept a profile so demonstrably low that even in the final hours of the search, college basketball power brokers still considered themselves so in the dark on IU’s intentions they wondered if Dolson had a “mystery candidate” waiting in the wings. 

... 

Dolson tasked John Decker, IU’s director of strategic communications, with conducting a study similar in nature to the one that was the backbone for the department’s most recent football coaching search. That previous study focused on comparing historically similar programs, but this time Decker focused his analysis on coaches themselves, including IU’s most recent hires.

Indiana asked, for example, whether a head coach successful in a certain job had inherited any of that success, or built it from scratch....

Decker’s number crunching picked up on the fact that Miller had more or less sustained success at Dayton, rather than built it — Brian Gregory won 97 games in his final four seasons coaching the Flyers, before handing off to Miller, who won 90 in his first four years there.

DeVries compared favorably in that analysis. Drake had won just 40 games in the four years before he arrived, compared to 95 in his first four years....

Decker’s research also suggested DeVries was a capable coach in close games. Dolson said Wednesday that DeVries has a career .650 winning percentage in games decided by five points or less.

“As we looked around the country, that's something that's really significant with winning programs,” Dolson said. “All that stuff mattered.”

So we aren't allowed to disagree with you? It used to be standard not to transfer schools 3 or 4 times, but here we are. 

You are asking DeVries to be loyal to unloyal people, why?

I've known John for years. He is a good dude. You learn something new every time you're around him.

If it's the same guy -- John was a student intern/assistant in the SID's office when I was an IDS sports reporter about 35 years ago.

Theres nothing derailing about it.  But you acted pretty bothered.  

It's not awesome to you that he didn't address the team.  

It makes no difference to me either way.
