From all accounts, DeVries is an excellent X's and O's coach. BTW - I strongly agree, that DeVries is the better fit. Maybe is or maybe he isn't. But I think DeVries regardless is very good coach. I think Drock also brings other elements that make him a better fit than McCollum. I am 100 percent behind the hire. I was for McCollum before I knew anything about DeVries. I think Dolson made a smart well reasoned decision. For once this feels like a well thought out hire instead of all the stupid ones we made before it. CSP 1 Quote

And Tucker DeVries underwent shoulder surgery for a fake injury so his dad could take another job that he was the backup plan for. They all be drinking cases of this in WV. Those (unsurprisingly) aren't even consistent. Tucker faked an injury to maintain eligibility when dad took a new job yet DeVries was also throwing games? Do they really think losing would make him more likely for someone to hire him away? Was DeVries coaching for a new job or was he throwing games? Can't have it both ways. 8bucks 1 Quote

Them WVU fans are fing butthurt. They think coach DD and Tucker ran as good as grift on WVU as Woody and Buckner did on IU. I went down a wormhole on a Reels comment section showing DD’s announcement presser. If half of what they say is true we got ourselves a slimy coach…and they say IU fans are crazy. To me, it's a great sign that WVU fans are angry about this. It means they really wanted DeVries to stay, and they're forced to come up with QAnon conspiracy theories to explain why he'd leave. Their pride is obviously hurt -- especially considering the fact that we didn't give him that big of a pay raise from what he was getting at WVU, and apparently they were willing to pay him as much as we are. And he still left, because the resources at IU give him an opportunity to coach at a higher level, and that's something he clearly values and desires. WVU fans are this year's JMU fans. Bitter over losing a coach who jumped to a better opportunity, and smearing his character in the process. I don't know if you guys recall, but JMU fans spread all sorts of BS about Cignetti when he took the IU job. This is hardly any different. 8bucks, sirhoosierlot, CSP and 1 other 4 Quote

And this year at Drake certainly points him in the right direction. But it's only one year. No way is he ready to enter the chit show that has been IU basketball the past several years. Need a guy that can deal with rebuilding a dysfunctional roster (and can come in a recruit IU level players right away), a divided fan base, divided former players (with some "banned" from the program), the clownshow that is the Hysterics (and their fans), the politics to maintain a high level NIL, etc., etc. DeVries has is work cut out for him. I'm 100% behind him. Agree. This is McCollum's first season ever in D1. Otherwise his entire playing, assistant, head coach career was in D2. DeVries played D1 and was a longtime assistant under Altman and McDermott. Multiple trips to NCAA tournament as a head coach. One year experience in a big conference. I think there's less risk of the non-basketball parts of the IU job being "too big" for DeVries. go iu bb, NVFalcons1990, HoosierHoopster and 2 others 5 Quote
