Darian DeVries - New IUBB Head Coach

I liked what he had to say. He definitely WANTS to be at IU. We now have a motivated coach that has a deliberate plan on how he wants to build this. That is a HUGE upgrade from the last 8 years. Crean was the last coach that even appeared to have a plan or a clue on how to build success. Crean just couldn't sustain it...

This is why I’m 100% on board now. All year I have commented/complained to other fans that IU was just a collection of high prices players. They were not a team and the pieces didn’t fit together to make a team.

Can’t really have it both ways where UK settled and IU didn’t, because each guy was essentially a midmajor coach with one year of P5 experience. Popes was arguably a better year.

Loved the shot at Woodson about trying to be successful bringing in 10-11 players every season... Woodson had exactly what DeVries said - a collection of players, and not a team.

By all accounts he's a really solid recruiter. In his first year at WVU he had a top 25 incoming freshman class and brought in a top 3 transfer portal class last summer.

He seemed uncomfortable in his opening remarks.  I thought he was quite comfortable answering the questions about basketball.  Devries was back in his element just talking ball.
