Honestly I would've told you the latter is more likely lol. I'm a history/geography/language nerd and love talking about these sorts of topics.

But also, Darian DeVries is just a cool name. Has excellent phonaesthetics.

Now you’re just showing off.

Who cares.  Underwood had 2 of the worse seasons historically at Illinois in his first 3 years and Purdue lost to a 16, 15, 14, 12 seeds in the tourney. Probably more offer which double seed painter needs to fill in the infinity gauntlet.   I’m in a group chat with Purdue fans and they said can’t believe IU actually hired a quality coach.  End of the day who gives a crap what anyone else thinks.  Ask Iowa fans what they think of the hire

Hope you’re right man, hope you’re right.

He will have to win to prove we are a serious basketball program....this hire alone does not communicate that.

I get that but given that hiring an up and coming coach/assistant  has become the standard for schools who previously won a championship when replacing a coach (UK. Lville, UNC, Duke, Nova, UConn, Syracuse) who would you have wanted?  You have to find your guy and help make them great.

Depends on who you are the next 4 years will feel.  Might be an apt description.

I want to believe.   Someone sell me why I should like this hire better than

Beard

Wade

Mccollum

mccasland

Beard? Excellent coach. Notable Personal demons and alcohol issues.

Wade? Excellent coach. Slime bag that is under a show cause until June 21st.

McCollum: Excellent coach. Never recruited, assistant coached, or played at D1 or P5.

McCasland? Would have been a massively big time hire along the lines of Otzelberger. Wasn’t available.

Darian DeVries' teams vs. preseason
@kenpomeroy
projections over the last 5 years:
- 2024-25 (West Virginia):
Preseason: 85th
Actual: 53rd (+32 over expected, without best player)
- 2023-24 (Drake):
Preseason: 80th
Actual: 53rd (+27 over expected)
- 2022-23 (Drake):
Preseason: 79
Actual: 69 (+10)
- 2021-22 (Drake):
Preseason: 74th
Actual: 84th (-10)
- 2020-2021 (Drake):
Preseason: 158th
Actual: 55th (+103)
DeVries teams have finished nearly 53 spots higher than projected, on average, in his last 5 seasons.
Meanwhile, Indiana was -9, -42, -18, -18, -24 over the past 5 seasons.
So, on average over the last 5 seasons:
- DeVries +53 over expected
- Indiana - 20 under expected

And not a single good Kenpom number in there despite outdoing poor projections. Laughable.
