He was able to absorb 41 sacks last year. Seems durable enough.

He does, and Cal’s o-line was clearly terrible. I think the only game he got knocked out of was an uncalled targeting against Miami in the only Cal game I actually saw. But if they want to run some stuff where he’s running it and he’s gonna take B1G-level punishment, I want him ready to absorb it and I would question that now.

A bit more muscle wouldn't hurt. I certainly don't want to see IU's QB take that many hits. Plus we need to factor in IU's luck. An example of that is Penix who couldn't stay healthy at IU even at 6-3, 220. He'd get injured without even getting hit. Mr Glass at IU then stays healthy after he left.

Nothing can derail a season as quickly as a starting QB going down.

I'm not so sure I want IU's QB to be a part of the run game. A scramble out of the pocket when necessary absolutely. But the fewer hits he takes the better in my mind. To me, a running QB is like playing Russian roulette with the season on the line.

Mendoza isn't a guy who was a big part of the running game at Cal.  More of a scramble when necessary.

In terms of Mendoza picking between Georgia and Indiana, I'm sure that Georgia is willing to roll with Conner Stockton.  He was the 7th ranked QB in the class of 2022 and in the little time he has played at Georgia behind Beck, he's been decent (37 of 51, 354 yards).

Georgia announcing Beck had UCL surgery (Tommy John) today probably means the pathway to playing time just got easier. Really hoping for a commitment in the next 24 hours and before Georgia can get him on campus for a visit after the dead week.

Kirby probably asking donor(s) for another half-million to outbid Cig

welcome to “big boy football” in 2025 and beyond

I’m sure Kirby’s pitch went from “we have a spot for you” to “with Beck having major elbow surgery, you now have a chance to compete for the job”.

Hope Cig can still get him but, if not, I really hope Cig has an “option B” in the portal. Not sure who that would be at this point (Walker White?) but somebody.

I feel much worse about this after that Zyn update.  If it's not announced soon, we are probably onto plan B, which who knows who that could be.

I’d go to Georgia over IU lol

If he got guaranteed the starting spot I'd get it.  But not sure a junior who had a very successful sophomore season would want to go somewhere he has to compete for a starting spot.

If it was an equal opportunity sure. But Mendoza went from being an Ivy League commit to a team in Cal taking a late flyer to a highly productive underclassman. Mendoza has a legitimate shot at making the NFL if he continues to grow and develop. Tough doing that if you’re not getting snaps.
