Enright will never be an AA but would wager he’d be one of the nastiest, orneriest SOB’s we’ve seen in awhile. Guessing he’d be a ~25 mpg guy here. Whether or not he starts is up to Coach. Guessing he finishes most games.

Matt and Trent Sisley follow Dix for what it’s worth. I know the closer to home rumor. Saw some where else his mom is steadily improving and NIL for his actually value is a big part of his transfer too. Not saying he’s ours by any means but think it’s better than a 0% chance.

I know someone previously mentioned Jalen Jackson from PFW. I’m actually intrigued. He put up 31 points vs Penn State and 27 vs. Michigan

Northrop Fort Wayne kid.  I’m sure he’d jump at the opportunity.  Not the best shooter.  Curious about the staff’s take on such things.

Even a bad shooter from distance really.  Kind of a bully of a guard that can score at the rim at his level.  If I’m building a team, I don’t try to do that with sub 30% 3 point shooters. 
 

At some point you have to Money ball these decisions.  Carlyle and Rice were good examples this year, although I’ll admit Rice never realized his potential and Galloway has demonstrated for 4+ years shooting doesn’t always improve and generally shooting translates.  So let’s start Money balling some of these decisions instead of hoping for best case.

I heard DDV in an interview with WVU people answer this question. He said when evaluating people that skill is obviously important and preferred. Said they need to be elite at one thing and then he'll teach them the rest. Said he can teach anyone to become a better shooter. I'm paraphrasing obviously but it was close to this. Loved his answer about being "elite" at something.

Fair. But the thought of teaching shooting has been costing NBA Scouts jobs for years. Can it be learned and improved? Of course. But some guys have it and some don’t. I see this being the case A LOT.

Don't disagree at all. I think as a G you need to be an average shooter at minimum unless you are an elite defender, play maker, slasher etc. Different skills on a team are great to have. I think the problem for us the last 8+ years is that we'd only have 1 guy on the team that had the shooting skill. Not winning that way today. Need 3 guys on the court at all times that are legit threats from deep imo and of them 2 that can also slash.

I’m still in the hope newton can get healthy dream - hope world. Dude has so much talent and just can’t stand seeing guys robbed of their games and own dreams by injury. If he were to overcome the nagging injuries and come back and play his game, that alone would make for a great part of a new look IU under the new staff

Agree 100% and while I’d be shocked if he comes back I’d take him in a second over some kid just filling a back end roster slot. Will always have it stuck in my head watching Newton HS play Brownsville(TX) HS when he was a Jr and in a game with Stephon Castle, Ron Holland and Wesley Yates, Jakai was absolutely the best player on the floor and 1 of the announcers suggesting he was actually too good for IU and a better program was gonna poach him.

I’ve been excited about Newton since day 1 of commitment. Even if he were to transfer, I’m still going to follow him

Maybe 1 to keep in the back of the mind. Colby Garland from Longwood enters the portal. Lefty PG. Played for DeVries as a freshman. Averaged 12pts/4asts on decent shooting splits. 2 years of eligibility.

Yes. I prefer the Dan Hurley philosophy of recruit shooters and teach them other things.

I hope he gets healthy and can play, too. Just somewhere else. There are 15 scholarships next season so I guess using one on a hope might not hurt too much.
