I'm not trying to be argumentative, but in 2 yrs of college, he's been bad (see stats above.) The narrative is because he was buried behind NBA talent and didn't get his turn. Ok, all I am saying is while that might be true, that is projection. Harris has actually done jack squat in 2 seasons, whatever the reason. So annointing him as IU's starting SG seems wildly optimistic. I'd prefer someone that has actually done it in college, even at a lower level (a la Brumbaugh) than someone that hasn't done anything since HS 3yrs ago. Sure, nobody knows anything for now but we can be relatively confident of a few things. Harris hasn't even played 10 mpg in his career yet. Jasai Miles actually did it at a lower level at UNF and he showed he couldn't cut it at this level. The box score doesn't tell the whole story with Harris because of the limited sample size. He looked like he belonged on the court against higher quality competition. You take a shot on a guy like Harris because of the upside and cost profile vs paying for a guy like Brumbaugh IMO. We can be pretty confident Harris is motivated most by playing time. So he's not coming to be 4th guard anywhere. JF87, thebigweave, HoosierDevils and 2 others 5 Quote
tyappleg Posted April 11 Posted April 11 I can understand having some trepidation with Harris. But you are going to have to hope to hit on some guys like that to be successful. Jasai Miles had proven production at a lower level, and it meant absolutely nothing when he got to a P4 school. The logic can work both ways. Personally I'm ok taking a shot on the guy with more natural talent. BA47591, Home Jersey, skhoosier2 and 3 others 5 1 Quote
Pagoda Posted April 11 Posted April 11 IU isn’t in a great spot. But even in our current state we are still a bit more than just money. To get commits we need to sell fit with the roster, development plan, the staff, exposure, playing in AH, and facilities and all that. Some of this is still appealing. We aren’t entirely chopped liver. skhoosier2, Stuhoo, IUHoosier5 and 2 others 5 Quote

He could probably be had without breaking the bank and is related to Rod. All Big East 2nd team. Small and not a good 3 point shooter, but smart player, quick, tough and good distributor. Just need to have shooting around him. I'd like the Moody to get about 7 to 10 minutes a game if capable. Juwan Moye and Home Jersey 2 Quote

That’s all anyone has to offer besides the connection with a coach. Virginia won a title 6 yrs ago and they’re not getting discounts. Who’s lining up to play at Purdue or MSU on a discount? Not even Houston, UK or Kansas seem to get them. Guys routinely passing up money to play for a specific program…Michigan and Duke? Maybe. A couple other programs…Maybe. But mostly it’s recruiting and money. Or so it seems to me. BannerVille, pumpfake, Juwan Moye and 3 others 6 Quote

I think the difference is that if a school that has had success recently (with that coach) offers $2 million and we offer $2 million we lose out to their reputation. We have to offer more. Playing time can help but several schools can offer that. Until we can catch up to other schools by winning our NIL bucket say of $14 million may only land us players valued at $10 million. skhoosier2 1 Quote

I think it’s more a factor of not having any homegrown recruits who are easier to retain that stretches our budget. We have playing time and money to offer. There’s no reason a coach can’t sell that. Plenty of other coaches have. At $14mil we should have plenty to outbid for the guys we really want if it comes down to it. But who really knows? Home Jersey, Juwan Moye and Pagoda 3 Quote

I think that’s generally true, though this staff has only had a year here and I don’t think their rep is set in stone yet. We’ve got way more than I would like to explain away from last season, but this staff is still in a window where they can sell a vision. At least I hope. To be fair I don’t really know. skhoosier2, HoosierHoopster and 8bucks 3 Quote

I have zero clue how negative Nancie’s have takes like these when something like 50 players out of 3,000 in the portal have committed to this point. Not being negative. Just objective. The current standard bearer in the conference got a major commitment day 1. As far as I know we have only three visits set up. Seems to me, with everything that we need, we should have a lot more activity this weekend and going into next week. But like I said, let’s see what this weekend brings.
