I’m looking forward to seeing what the addition of ‘Ryan Carr Roster Czar ©️’ does to help DDv build a more balanced, capable roster.

Also looking forward to assessing what a 2nd year DeVries does in-game without his limited, but skilled son but also with hopefully more high-major players this year.

Kind of depends what one considers to be spin. If they sign a class ranked 20th but the pieces look like a team and fill rolls and the vision is clear and the staff seems pleased I’m gonna be perfectly fine with it and willing to assume the best and judge the actual game results even if I preferred some different kids and that’s what I’ll say. Am I spinning? I don’t think I am. Now if they sign a 6 man class of 6 centers that would rate a side eye, but even then I’m down with judging the end result because it’s DDV’s vision at play, not mine. So, yeah, I’m probably only gonna get so critical unless I see an utterly incoherent process, which would shock me.

I dont know what everyone is so upset about in this thread.  Portal season is the 2nd most exciting time to be an IU basketball fan.  Only behind coaching search season, which only happens once every 4 years.

Assuming Carr is allowed to do his job this has the potential to be the most significant IU hire in a long time.

I'm a little surprised that we haven't heard of any IU players hitting the portal yet.

Yes.  Maybe technically against the rules, but in reality there are no rules.

Teams are talking with agents weeks and months ahead of the portal opening.  Sometimes deals can be struck before the portal is open — then the player enters with a “do not contact” tag and they head to wherever.

At the least, a lot of recruiting work is done before the portal opens.

Last week was spring break, right? Not sure what the typical process looks like after a season is over but I assumed players took some time off and then there would be some sort of team/individual meetings happening? Gotta be close to some announcements if that's the case.

Thanks, seems like that would prevent the player from going to the highest bidder, unless that player knows exactly where he/she wants to go or play for a specific coach etc..

Agree.  I think they have decent market intel pre-portal, but it probably takes a “strong @$$ offer” as well to have the whole thing wrapped up before the portal opens.

This is a concern for sure. My confidence in Carr comes from people I know that follow the Pacers closely or work there themselves. All the feedback I’ve heard is he is excellent. I’m more concerned with will he have the necessary resources to fix this in a year or will they have to money ball it and build through high school recruiting which will take 2 more years imo.

Tbf, our fanbase has spent 25 years watching Davis/Crean/Archie/Woody try to coach. That’s like going to the hibachi place and getting Michael J Fox as your chef. You can’t blame ‘em for thinking “hey, I could do better than that!”
