But Momentum is a son of an gun and I've seen what happens to other coaches when they lose momentum. Recruiting falls off, then their title of coach falls off. Critical to get the fanbase behind you in year 1 these days because it CAN be done. The resources are supposedly there to help make that happen. I'm extra anxious because a great first year like Michigan/Louisville had has catapulted them and we can try to hope to recreate that. We lose a good portion of our team again after this year, including most, or possibly all, of the starting lineup so I agree that building some momentum this year is important. A tournament birth should be the expectation. This year he has the advantage of being able to take an international trip to get in extra practices and games played which should help them gel earlier. This year he had his son to build around and a vision to sell. If that fails, it'll be that much harder to sell that to good players next year. I'm not saying he can't recover from a bad first year, just that it becomes that much harder so gaining momentum early is important. UL had the advantage of playing in the ACC, which was very weak last year. Decent team but not as good as the record would indicate. IU has a much tougher schedule. I have said from the beginning it is imperative we win pretty big this season. Devries needs the fanbase to rally behind him and winning will do that. If this roster can't win at a good rate this could get ugly quick imo. Hopefully this team is what he wanted and is confident we can winSent from my SM-S926U using Tapatalk Quote

I want him or anyone to be great! No reason why we can’t be the Alabama of the North. Money and good coaching virtually immediately made them a powerhouse. I’d sign up for their results/ expectations/prognositications immediately. In my hopes and dreams that’s our path. Quote
ebridges24 Posted May 1 Posted May 1 I think Reed will be 10 times better on defense for us, for 2 reasons, a) coaching and 2) it was said that he had to avoid foul trouble because he was the only decent big they had, we actually have a couple decent backups Juwan Moye, RaceToTheTop and 8bucks 3 Quote

However, I would think that the days of a lot of our offense generated out of post feeds are all but over. Spread the floor with shooters and then drive or rim run, or run perimeter motion to free shooters. With Bama the percentage of three balls is extreme. Can’t understate how much I prefer CDD’s offense to Woody’s or Bama’s. When Bama is making 3s they are tough to beat but when the shots are not falling… boy, is that some pitiful basketball. A 22/18 minute split with Federiko/Alexis at the 5 next year perfectly compliments the remaining personnel. He averaged 19 mpg and during the tourney he averaged 11 mpg. Again last year with a top 15 D he had a more offensive 5 and a defensive backup. He is doing that again I believe. Alexis had a higher block and rebounding percentage than Federiko. Alexis also was significantly better than Babo at the mid major level. HoosierHoopster, Home Jersey, thebigweave and 2 others 5 Quote

That’s certainly attainable with the roster we have. May and Pope did better jobs, so we’ll see how they build off of that this year. I expect that they do. But we’ll all expect CDD to do so in year 2 as well. ACC was trash Juwan Moye, str8baller and Silat Player 3 Quote

It was more to the impact Oats has had and the near immediacy. They are now somewhat of a new blood expected to be near the top 10-15-20 each year. Recruit incredibly well. Good coaching and money and boom, a near immediate flip at a school that didn’t know what basketball was.I’m hoping Indiana will eventually be so lucky. Kenpom had them ranked 85th preseason on defense and they finished 15th on defense at the end. I mean he would have won 20+ games if his son didn’t get injured as they had the majority of their Q1 wins with him starting at the beginning. He increased Javon Smalls PER by 6. There are a lot of positives if you think about it. JF87, Pagoda, thebigweave and 9 others 12 Quote

Would something like "Overpaying mid major talent and the horrors of not being ranked in the preseason top 25," work? Or would that likely attract discussion of slow coaching staff construction and favorite Bloomington eateries? IU is currently ranked 36th on Torvik....Alabama is right there at 35. And Torvik hasn't added in Josh Harris yet (he doesn't show up in their unsigned portal players but also doesn't show up on IU's roster). Torvik really likes Harris as well -- his offensive rating last year was 117, which would put him tied with Wilkerson's projection for next year -- even if you lower it to what Harris's offensive rating was last year for games just against top 100 competition, his rating would be 112. So by one man's rating -- which you yourself have said is one that should at least be looked at -- Torvik would rate IU higher than an Alabama program you are wanting us to compare to. Hoosier987 Posted May 1 Posted May 1 We have 1 or 2 more roster spots to fill depending on Goode. Still think we need more length to feel really good. If One of Bailey, Harris or Alexis are in the “dreaded boot” we’re in a very dicey situation: Quote

Knecht can't get on the floor the second half of this nba year because he's such a liability on defense but I don't remember it being too big of a deal his year at Tennessee Lies I tell you. Lies. There is no defense in the NBA. :) Brill 1 Quote
