We shouldn't give money to younger people because they might be irresponsible? Sure some kids might blow that money just like some pro athletes blow all their money, but that's not any sort of legit reason not to pay them if someone is willing to.

Which other categories of 18-21 year olds should we restrict from being paid a lot?

• If an opera singer in the IU Jacobs School gets a very well-paid internship, should we restrict that or kick them out of school?
• If a comp sci genius at IU infomatics  gets a big consulting payment, should we not allow it?
• Kelley School has a kid who founded a super-successful business idea while at Kelley, using his Kelley-developed skills, and a big corporation offers him a few million for it... shouldn't be allowed?

Upon further reflection I think we should take Josh Harris before he visits Miami and they play the stay at home card.

Then just sit on the other scholarship and be patient. Might be more de-commits, maybe Baba stops slow playing and realizes the opportunity to be a Hoosier is too good to pass up, maybe Federico drops his asking price. maybe there are other European mystery bigs in play, maybe someone withdraws from the draft that we like(Neoklis Avdalis). Maybe Luke was just playin and he doesn't get his waver and we have 2 scholarships. We got this.

I know NIL is here to stay and this is how NCAA has progressed, but there HAS to be some sort of regulations, caps or something because it's only going to get worse.

 

As much as I want to agree, setting caps, limits and rules will only force the excess back under the tables and into the shadows. And, yes, it will only get worse as we move forwards, regardless of what tact "we" take.

I think since he’s visiting he’s a Hoosier, just a feeling. You don’t bring someone in you don’t plan on pursuing

We'll never know exactly what these players make. I asked last year, from someone that would know. Prior to Goode and James what the bill was. I  doubt  they'll tell me this year.  On3 turned out to be really close. 

We had 1 millionaire on last year's team and he got death threats. Imagine what Claude would go through if he got a third of what's being batted about?

Harris is mostly a college 4 who brings a different 4 look than Alexis.  Alexis is more of a banger who could be a 5 against smaller 5's.  Harris is more of a leaper.

You totally missed my point ….LOL …which is that I find it hilarious when posts are made along the lines that they  “hope” that DD has something in mind for us in the paint.  
I stated I had zero doubt he has something planned and pointed out that we (internet warriors) clearly know it’s an issue so how in the world wouldn’t DD realize the same thing as it’s so obvious?

We shouldn't be paying them because they aren't worth paying all this money to them. The individual players aren't what sells but the Universities name. The old system was way more than fair and now they are ruining college sports

The university's names don't sell if their teams are getting destroyed. Welcome to Rutger, Northwestern, and Minnesota basketball.

The perfectly legit alternate option is to give up attempting to effectively compete in big-time college football and basketball.

Are you saying that given the current state of NIL, you'd prefer that IU not pay players that are coveted enough to command a big paycheck? That is what Rutger, NW, and Minny seem to have decided, and it's not a crazy notion.

No I said I hate the system and college athletes shouldn't be paid. I could handle it if it was actually NIL rather than pay for pay through the collectives

So there are only two choices:

1. Pay a ton and get a competitive team (*especially if your coach doesn't suck).
2. Don't pay a ton and get a non-competitive team. 

Which do you prefer? "I don't like it and wish it wasn't this way!" is not one of the current choices.

The players never played for free since they were getting at least $50,000 + with scholarships and housing. 

I make a lot less than the CEO of my company even though I probably do more work, it is called life and it isn't fair
