They (Louisville) are a serious bball program that is willing to do whatever it takes to win…now! Past, current and future transgressions are simply a calculated cost of doing business.

Just WIN baby and no one talks about the prostitutes, bags of money, bribery, other sex scandals and all the rest. They know this, so go all in.  6 month reboot and they on! Also, they’ve got the reboot process down to a science since they’ve had to execute so many times.

Such a serious bball program that they hired a coach previously that got tricked by Woodson's zone and had a press conference called to announce Dusty May as their coach last year that they had to call off.

and majority of the time if it doesn’t involve the big names he always goes with the home teams

That’s logical because teams without big budgets need to mine talent locally. But IU has, even under Woody, pulled kids from everywhere: West Coast, east Coast, Florida, midwest, etc… we have the budget and profile to be competitive. CDD should be competitive nationally. I take it as almost axiomatic that he will be.

I think we agree on everything else.

August 30 and now we have to hope CC  can get some players out of the portal because of the injury to the transfer from Michigan

No way, the O lineman?

Well, they were serious enough to s-can a lousy coach after 2 seasons rather than 4.  Gotta give 'em that.

Why does he have to impress me…or you?  He’s two plus weeks into being the HC.

He doesn’t have to “impress” anyone, but he has to win games if he wants to keep his job, and a huge key to winning games is landing high caliber portal in the offseason - especially so when you don’t have any returning players. He doesn’t have a full staff yet and went after Dix and Conwell both but couldn’t land either of them. Like geez, I feel like I’m pretty uncharacteristically reasonable in my takes today but any concern with DD’s performance thus far is being met with giant backlash. It’s ok to admit that it’s been a shaky start. Plenty of time to get things moving in the right direction.

Coach isn’t wasting money, going for team players. Not just going for the highest bid for the first bull through the pen. I for one appreciate that.

You have to have a strategy and stick to it. I know a lot of college fans don’t watch the pros, but for those of us who do we are pretty familiar with salary caps and letting good players walk that are too expensive.

If CDD isn’t good at that he will fail. If he is he will have success. At this point, I don’t even know how you would begin to assess that until he has a roster. I like Dix as a player, but he’s far from make or break. Hell, i like Conwell more, but if CDD thought he was too expensive then you have to stand firm and rely on your judgement.

Kenny Payne's best year doesn't even compare to Woodson's worst year. Zero percent chance Louisville would have fired Woodson after his first two years in Bloomington. No program in the country would have.

Not that he does, but I'm fairly impressed by the assistant staff additions. He's put together a strong group including for recruiting.

Waiting (impatiently, because I'm now living in the world of instant gratification) to see him land some big fish guards/wings in the portal (that fit), but he's off to a good start imo

I hope we're putting together a roster that an injury or two doesn't wreck the season. Since two of our commits have had injury issues in their careers. Sounds like that was a problem at WV last year too.

Agree, although even losing their best player to injury they won ten Big 12 games and by all rights should have been in the NCAA tournament.

This is tremendous personal growth AH! :)

I see you learned your lesson from buying into Woodson’s offseason hype machine.

I agree… could be a nice change of pace to win during the season instead of the offseason. Let’s see where things are at later this month.

Huh?

I've taken a back seat to every new hire since Knight. Goal for DeVries this year is to get a culture and system in place. Anything after that is gravy. I've been pretty consistent on that since January regardless of who IU was going to hire. There's nothing attractive about IU right now outside of money. And with revenue sharing being enacted this next athletic calendar year, a whole bunch of other teams just fell into some money.
