Myles Rice into the portal. The portal rankings are going to be really interesting to look at. Mgbako and Rice will probably be top ten on most lists, Cupps will be top 75 or something, Carlyle will be up there if he goes and Bryson Tucker will probably be top 20 or so....yet, few IU fans will be particularly sad to see them go and will view them as necessary departures. Just something I'll be keeping in mind as the new roster is assembled.

I don't think Rice, Cupps, and KC will be highly ranked.

At this point, I think it's fair to say that most portal rankings aren't worth the paper they're written on...

It's all relative.  For one team/coach, a guy might be a top ten guy overall for fit in their system, but in the grand scheme of things, might be a guy ranked #100 overall in the portal.  Obviously some guys will transcend fit by just talent alone.  But for a lot of these guys; fit in the system matters way more than just how talented they may be.  (See: your 2024/2025 Indiana Hoosiers)

I just checked the 247Sports portal rankings: Reneau is 12th, Mgbako is 31st, Gabe Cupps has slid down to 84th but is still ranked as top 100. I certainly don't agree with the rankings but Reneau, Mgbako and Rice are going to be coveted by high-major programs.

I had not looked at rankings since the initial top ten list I saw that had both Malik and Mgbako in the top ten so my apologies on not looking at updated rankings and overstating it initially. My overall point of the transfer rankings not being much of a guidance on eventual impact stands.

On the topic of portal rankings -- just an observation: These portal kids are much easier to rank -- they have completed actual seasons of D1 and/or D2 ball.  High school kids are much more of a mystery and tougher to rank -- less tape, competition can vary a lot, and they have the uncertainty of translating to college ball.

Personally, when it comes to portal players, while I like high rankings (I can't help it), it's very easy to just watch the player playing college games and reach a conclusion on your own.

It's a good point program fit is important and rankings don't really capture that.  I'm glad CDD understands this.

Yeah the rankings don't mean anything it's just someone's opinion. Look at Kansas they had 3 highly ranked transfers. What did they get out of it. It's about the fit that's what Self said money thrown away. You've gotta go after 2 or 3 year guy's. Unless it's a 1 year guy who fits your team culture.

Cupps loves him some terrible offensive systems.

The big $$$ is the overriding factor.  He’s learning about coaching…which is his future unless he has some other serious business interests etc.  Maybe he’ll give playing overseas a shot.  Who knows.  He was a disappointment at IU, imo.  He’s not tremendously gifted as a player…at the college level.

Listened to a West Virginia podcast earlier and they said that Frazier was not going to stay if Hodge was hired.  Not sure if accurate but that may free him up should he want to follow to Indiana

When so we think we'll have names of players in this thread? There was a random tweet out their from an account belonging to "coach" that said their were several big names in our future. Just paraphrasing....

It's day 3 of a 30 day window and Connor Enright is scheduled for a visit.

Just not my cup of tea. He and his people pushed his own agenda. The only thing I ever heard was that he wasn't the greatest with other students. But nothing team-wise.

His dad is an interesting fella that I met during my time in Ohio. He was pushing a book that was an inspirational semi-fictional tale of coaching and leadership.
