“Unlikely to coach next season,” “contemplating,” “possibly retiring” we are so GD unserious. We’re gonna dick up the next hire too aren’t we? This is about the worst way this could have leaked to the big J journos.
It does give off the perception of weakness and indecision. Strong, decisive leadership is hard, but in these times, it is necessary to ensure the values of the institution/programs are upheld. At the end of the day, expectations have not been met by a long shot. It's really not that hard of a conversation in this case. Legally I'm sure there is a lot to button up, but it shouldn't be that difficult to look at him and say "the performance of the program has not met the expectations of the university, admin, and fans. You are the leader of that program. You are being relieved of your duties."

He deserves every boo he gets at this point if he is too arrogant to step down.

Woodson is thinking if the fans know he is considering retiring then they won’t boo him out of the gym.  Then all he has to do is finish strong and save his job.

After today's pr fiasco does anyone really have any faith iu will make a good hire? They seem re interested in making sure this king leaves on his own terms.

Maybe I’m in the minority but I think the “contemplating” stuff is perfect. He’s gone. So this makes it seem like it was his decision. I think we will get an official announcement tomorrow that he is retiring. Who cares what the messaging is today.

Whether he continues to coach is interesting. I don’t care as long as it isn’t affecting who we could get as a coach.

Yep, I don't know how this is going down exactly, but it reeks.

He deserves every single boo. Guess we'll see how loud AH can get for all the wrong reasons vs Michigan.

Throw salt in the wound and chant for Dusty too, I know that's "wrong" but whatever.

The admin has broken the pact with the fans. Quinn and Mike brought this program to its knees.

Assembly Hall is going to be ugly, and everyone involved is going to deserve it for this farce. I don’t like the Dusty chants, but I’ve reached apathy on that. It’s gonna rain Dusty chants, and so f****** be it.

There would be no need to boo him if we know he will be gone after the season. I know I am in the minority but I don't a problem if him finishing the year out. Maybe I still have a soft spot for him because I loved him as a player. Also it doesn't hinder us hiring a new coach if he finishes the year. Since I don't buy the Steven's talk the other candidates are still working their current job
You know darn well if he went on a little run he would try stay

This is not giving me confidence that the coaching replacement will be handled well. Woodson's exit seems to be handled really poorly. They didn't get ahead of the media well at all..

I think it's tough to know exactly what's going on, I've got my own ideas but not a coherent theory per se.

Think Quinn and Woody are pulling serious maneuvers, but I don't know if they understand how badly they're setting Mike up.

If it turns out he's expected to stay til end of season and he coaches vs. Michigan then gets completely embarrassed by boos and cheers for the opposing coach, it will be humiliating and he will have to show up for another month. Maybe he'd quit then and there, go out real sad.

If though, it turns out Woody is just going to retire immediately and he doesn't coach vs. Michigan, then Dolson will have solidified his power grab, you may say...

You’re the most wrong poster in this thread. Go argue with someone else.

Except I’m not. I told you exactly how this was going to play out and it’s happening to a T. Sorry that you bought all the nonsense saying that he was going to get booted in the middle of the season.

I’m not sure why you are surprised? IU has never fired a coach in the middle of the season nor will they ever, especially one of their own.

There’s no point in leaking this “contemplating retirement” story. If you don’t want to say you’re firing him, given that he’s a former IU player, I get that. But if that’s the case then come out and say “Mike Woodson is retiring at the end of the season. He will coach the remainder of the year.” Instead we have this cluster of a mess in typical IU fashion.
