People act like it's rocket science.  It isn't.  Successful coaches have a handful of characteristics you can model.  Successful programs have the same.  Create a profile and follow it.  

The goals and expectations are simple -- it's a numbers game.  The more you make the tournament, the better your chances to advance.  So get yourself into the tournament as much as possible.  For the BIG10 that means what, top 7 or 8.  It's bonus if you're competing top 3 for the championship every few years.  But you have to get to the tourney.  Once you're in the tourney, you'll win some, you'll lose some.  Win 2 games and you're in the sweet 16.  1 more and you're "elite."  From there anything can happen.  You do it enough times with a level of consistency, the odds are in your favor to make the final 4 and beyond.  If you're not stumbling, bumbling, idiot as a coach you can get this done.  Heck, even Tom Crean was doing it -- just couldn't get over that hump.   :) 

Crean was a victim of the “high expectations,” Woody and Co. haven’t done enough to use that excuse. Making that excuse would imply you’re doing well enough that people should be less rabid. Crean getting canned a year after winning the B1G outright is an example of our program and fans believing Sweet Sixteens isn’t good enough.

Trying to slough off the fans while getting dog walked is pathetic.

The “compromise” by Dolson to let this go down this way saved us some good cash on the buyout. Lot of litigation today. Make no mistake about it, this was not Woody’s decision to retire.

If that was the case a pressure cooker job like IU would be less than ideal for him. And Buckner didn't do any favors for his friend or the program.

These guys don’t care.  It’s all about being in a club of status, money perks, benefits, financial stability/security and happiness.   Vacations, big homes, cars, wine, cigars, family, close friends, entertainment, going out to eat, parties, and the good life now and during retirement.

Distance afar is a winning cultural celebrated with integrity.  Truthfully that is what it is.

We got dog walked multiple times, and destroyed at home, this year with 6m in NIL. Imagine assembling a roster with 1/6th of that, with Mike Woodson coaching... I'm confident it would in fact be worse.

First off, firing Woodson mid season, at this point, is anything but an "emotional/knee jerk reaction" as you put it. Nobody on that staff could be trusted to lift this roster into a winner, however, nobody on that staff has developed into the wart on this fanbase's @$$ like Woodson. Maybe Hill but that's only by association and the fact that he appears to be sleeping through this misery. This fanbase could take damn near anybody else's face at those press conferences and would be perfectly fine with a washed season at this point. Nobody is asking for CC or Hulls or Walsh to take over because they expect better results. They'll take anybody as long as it isn't Woodson just to get him off that sideline.

Finally, I don't care what the process "is". The process needs to think about changing and changing quickly. The optics are far worse if they keep him for the season and this dumpsterfire continues. If those in the administration are using terms/phrases like "knee jerk", "emotional reaction", or "it's not going to gain us immediately better results", then they need to grow a pair or leave. 

They’re too stupid to understand.  They admit that the process hasn’t worked for 25 years but also state that they must stick with the process.  It is mind boggling.

While I do think it would be a slam dunk hire and would be thrilled, I do think there are some questions with BS. He hasn’t coached college in a decade and hasn’t coached at all in a minute. BS isn’t the grand slam home run he would have been after Crean anymore, more like a two run bomb with the potential to be a grand slam. Forgive me for my extended analogy lol

I'd take a two run bomb. Chris Stewart once "struck out" with 2 strikes because he forgot the count and walked back to the dugout and no one stopped him, that's what we have now.

I don’t know much about Jerrod Calhoun, but he’s only 43, very experienced as a head coach, and he won consistently at Youngstown State, which is absolutely no small feat.

Unfortunately we lost blue blood status a while ago and if we do still have it, the only people that think so are IU fans and maybe Dick Vitale. The rest of the world does not look at us that way anymore. We're a joke. Almost got it back with Crean winning Big Ten, #1 seed, etc, but couldn't get past the Sweet 16. Having banners only puts you there for some time. Some stats I saw earlier (maybe they're wrong but eye opening for sure):

  • IU hasn't finished above Purdue in the B1G since 2016 - 9 years ago
  • IU hasn't been to the Elite 8 or better since 2002 - 23 years ago
  • IU's average finishing position in the B1G over the last couple decades - something like 7.3

Mediocre at best. Blue Bloods do not accept this. Our admin has accepted it for far too long. Dolson nailed it with Cignetti so I'm going to give him the chance to fix this mess. The amount of $$$ he's brought into the department since being hired as AD has got to be massive, especially with football this year. There is absolutely no reason to not give him full reign.
